We just received news about a mysterious 'Litecoin Project' announced by MIT: https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@sarcastic-me/litecoin-sees-increased-development-amidst-surging-price-rally

I am just speculating here, but could this announcement with a deadline of 1 August 2017 - Bitcoin Fork Date - have something to do with the recent addition of 'Lightning Network' (LN) code to Litecoin? What I am thinking of is a big surprise announcement of a complete and functional LN app of Litecoin working seamlessly on top of Bitcoin, thus taking the transaction load of the Bitcoin network? I am not technical enough to understand whether this would work and how it then is supposed to work.

But it would be great if a working solution would sweep away the whole scaling debate for some time, all by these clever MIT guys.
