The container shipping industry represents 60% of the world’s sea trade, with a total value of $12 trln in 2017. However, the industry faces many challenges, like overcapacity, low freight rates, security threats and increasing environmental regulations.
One of the main problems is transporting empty containers which can be loaded with cargo. The costs are from about $15 bln to $20 bln. Today, there aren’t any useful technologies keeping the track of an empty container.
Global Shared Container Platform (GSCP)
Blockshipping’s Global Shared Container Platform (GSCP) was established for a global handling system of containers to solve the essential problems of the shipping industry.
Blockshipping and the GSCP platform are already funded by The Danish Maritime Fund. Now, the project conducts an ICO for further development.
The GSCP platform wants to provide a complete container asset registry (like a ship registry) based on the blockchain, where all global containers are registered, along with real-time locations of every container tracked around the world.
The aim of GSCP is to cover 60% of market with 16 million container units in the GSCP blockchain registry.
The perspective for the GSCP platform is to:
- Become the primary platform managing operational payments between stakeholders related to container sharing;
- Become the shipping industry’s primary IOT platform with the real-time tracking of containers;
- Monetize data based on Machine Learning, IOT data, AI, and the blockchain used in container dealing.
How does it work? Related technologies
The GreyBox is a new solution where all share container information across different companies.
Companies’ commercial departments want to see a container with their logo at the shippers’ docks. But one thing is certain: a good centralised IT system taking care of bookings is needed, but still, such a system has not been devised.
Since 2012, the blockchain technology has been maturing, so that it is good for handling a complex task like a global GreyBox Solution. The users of the GreyBox Solution will have a neutral shared platform where they are going to have the full data control.
The GSCP platform will be based on a private (permitted) blockchain, for them to obtain an optimum combination of high scalability, undisputed security, maximum control, privacy & flexibility, and what is more, low transactions and energy costs.
The GSCP is now considering “The Coco Framework” from Microsoft, with an open-source system enabling high-scale blockchain networks. It will accelerate the blockchain technology adoption. Coco achieves this through trusted execution environments (TEEs) such as Intel’s SGX and Windows’ Virtual Secure Mode (VSM).
Furthermore, the Coco Framework blockchain is designed to be open and compatible with any blockchain protocol.
The Solution enables a wide range of industry players, which do not necessarily trust each other, to come together on the same platform, exchange services and arrange fast and large-scale transactions in a decentralised environment controlled by participating nodes. The system is highly transparent and controls privacy.
The Blockshipping ICO
Blockshipping is launching the first ICO related to shipping.
The GSCP platform issues two tokens:
- The internal Container Platform Token (CPT);
- The external revenue share token - Container Crypto Coin (CCC).
They are issued on the global Ethereum blockchain. The internal CPT token will be used by the industry players when utilising the platform.
The token owners choosing to sell CCC tokens will receive Ethereum as a payment for these tokens. After the auction, Blockshipping will distribute all the CCC to all the owners of the external tokens on a pro-rata basis. The CCC token owners will be rewarded regardless of their decision (whether to sell or to keep them).
In order to give further incentive for buying CCC, 45% of the raised funds will be kept in a market maker fund for it to support the price of the CCC. The market maker fund will support the CCC price, and token holders can exchange their CCC to USD at any time.
The ICO pre-sale started in February, 2018. The public token sale was launched in April 2018.

The sphere is more than promising! Although I saw one project in this area, there are containers for transporting goods requiring maintenance of temperatures. And here it is absolutely global!
I agree, the scale here is even greater. And you probably talk about SmartContainers;)
I did not even think that when they send containers, they also send empty ones. Why not load a load. If this is the case, such a platform is absolutely necessary!
Indeed, ship cargo transportation is improving, innovation is needed here.
I don't fully understand what kind of blockchain they will use?
What I liked about it here is that, despite the ICO, there is already funding from the Danish Marine Fund, this will help develop this idea despite the fees.
Investing from the outside, this is a big plus to the project and its success!
Is it known on which exchanges a token will be issued? Will it be the top exchange?
I do not yet have this information, but I follow the news on the project.
great post...its amazing
;)
And how will they track empty containers, put them in the blockchain, and who will occupy them?
Each container will be stored in a blockchain, all with tags and sensors, each company will also be on the platform. Any company will see that the container is empty and can load cargo into it.
The cool name of the token is CCC. Looks beautiful, I think only because of this many will want to buy it;)))
Really beautiful abbreviation
The article was really very useful, thank you for the review. You always choose very high-quality projects that will bring us very good profits as investors.
I select projects by many criteria and almost all projects collect hardcap.
The idea is interesting, it turns out that all the containers and ships and the rest. Will everything be recorded in a single register? I think it's worth taking part in this project, I like their idea!
Everything will be on a single platform, and it is very convenient and necessary for this industry.
I understand correctly that the token will be released on the Ethereum platform, but will the Blockchain be created for the platform?
To begin with, Blockchain Ethereum is used, it will be seen later whether or not to make its blockchain.
