Warning
I was not planning on posting today as I need to go out but I think this is important enough for a quick post.
I have previously discussed how scammers were trying to use social engineering to scam peoples' credentials for MyEtherWallet by issuing fake warnings along with spoofed links on Slack.
It appears there is a now a new development where they are trying to capitalise on the BCC/BTC split on August the 1st:
Do not fall for it. Bittrex or any other legitimate exchange/service will not send you these kind of messages asking you to click on links - particularly in Slack.
If you want to get both BTC and BCC then you can keep your coins on an exchange that will honor both chains or to be ultra safe you can keep them in your own private wallet that you own the keys to.
Thanks for the warning! My advice should be to not transact for a while anyway and not dump one of the coins:
https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@michiel/six-reasons-why-i-will-keep-my-bcc-after-the-fork-on-the-first-of-august-even-when-i-am-heavily-against-it
Yes agreed on not transacting. I think people dumping BCC is inevitable though.
so good
@thecryptofiend - Thank you for the heads up. As you have advised, I have kept some bitcoin crypto in an offline secure paper wallet. I have kept some in Bittrex since Bittrex has officially announced that they will support both chains. Keeping fingers crossed. You make a very valid point about reputed exchanges never sending emails with embedded links. Thanks. Upvoted.
I request you to visit my latest blogs when you have some free time. You valuable comments and feedback will be very much appreciated. Thanks
Cool well done!

Thanks for the warning. My rule of thumb is always NEVER DO WHAT SOMEBODY WRITES TO YOU OR WANTS FROM YOU IN A DIRECT MESSAGE WITHOUT YOUR OWN ACTION BEFORE!!!
Some Emails are very clever designed and it sometimes hard to avoid, but if follow the rule it's 99% safe i think. Detailed look at such message almost always reveal something odd. Email adress of sender, subject, how they adress you and details in the body of the message.
true!
Absolutely.
Right
Totally agree.... after so many losses (I didn't have much to lose at these times so it's not a big problem for me) I've become good at knowing legit and scam emails by looking... most of these scam Emails are sent to as many people at once so they don't always has the real 'you' as the receiver but a "distant you' you can feel....
I tend to ask any person that sends me Email I didn't know before "where did you knew me?" as I frequent many websites and don't keep track who is who unless I talk to them a lot.

@thecryptofiend, do you know some developer to help us on SteemBnB? Any idea will be welcome! https://steemit.com/steembnb/@chicosonico/welcome-to-steembnb-homes-for-steemians
I'm afraid I don't. Finding good blockchain developers is one of the big issues right now.
Here is an example:
thx for sharing
Aww man.. this made me laugh. Thanks for the warning.
I had something else odd happen on Bittrex... for some reason 9 units of something called Lucent or something like that showed up in my wallet ($0.18 worth). There's no way I'd purchase 18 cents worth of crypto. I have no idea how it got there!
That is odd! Are you sure it wasn't an airdrop for Stellar Lumens? I think they were giving it away for free to bitcoin holders and Bittrex may have been honoring it to account holders.
That's it Lumen, sorry I'm working on my next chapter of my story and am in "that world." I went down to let the dog in and forgot him lol. Thanks that explains it... I thought my account got hacked- WHEW!!!
Thanks for the heads up. I hate scammers!
We all do!

Thanks:)
welcome, always. More success to you.
The scammers will take any opportunity, especially when people are worried. I hope they get shut down
I don't think they will as they will keep finding new ways to scam. People just need to be suspicious and cautious when clicking on links.
Never click a link sent to you. Always type in your link. Easy peezy.
Exactly.
Useful post! Thank you so much for this information !!
You're welcome!
Thank you so much !
NP:)
Thanks for taking the time to warn people about this. In the meantime, maybe sometime you can write about this Slack. Recently I've received a few messages from Slack with links to some site my computer wouldn't allow me to open. As the message offered some free money I assumed it must me a scam.
Not sure what else to write. Just don't click on any links in Slack. If you are concerned about something go to the site yourself.
Thank you very much.
Good information. I don't ever click on links in emails and go to the site directly personally because if it is legitimate when I log in I should see it on the site. It has kept me fairly well protected over the years.
Exactly. I do the same.
received same email from poloniex :) i never click on links so ye now scammers activated. thnx for warning
Good - hadn't heard of them using Poloniex but it makes sense.
Important warning @thecryptofiend. Seems like Slack has been full off scams lately. Several tokens I follow have had to send updates warning against scams like this designed to take advantage of the FUD surrounding the multi-sig wallet hack and the bitcoin forkening.
Yes for sure. Seem to see a new one almost every day and I'm not even a big slack user.
It was only a matter of time that they would come up with something. Thanks for the warning, I am affraid a lot of people are going to lose money
Hopefully not if we can spread the message.
I agree, Resteemed it
Thank you!
First, we had the problem with slack links and now we have this.
Annoying when we have incidents and events, like a potential split, people take advantage of it and use it to scam others out of their money.
It sickens me how narcissistic and cruel people can be and how greedy they are for money.
Exactly.
Thanks for the heads up. Resteemed!
Thank you!
though I read this article, I also know this, but I also thank you for me to get more accurate information
You're welcome!
Thanks for this information its really timely.
You're welcome!
Definitely worth an upvote and a resteem :]
Thank you!
Thanks for the warning. I only have a small amount and I will wait awhile to cash it in. Nice post.
Thank you. It is best to be safe.
That's terrible, But I expected this much.... BCH is a great opportunity for scammers that I'm sure everyone of them planned 100 ways of exploiting it way before it got released...
I agree with @onetin84 comment on this post... if someone PMed you on any website, don't do anything unless after getting to know them... ask them why they sent the message.. do they know you? if they don't you probably shouldn't do what they say... even when it sounds too good... ESPECIALLY when it sounds too good!!
Yes exactly.
Thanks for the info !!! I will keep it in mind :P

Thanks! I am new here in steemit, and to bitcoin.I am trying to send btc from coinbase to another wallet for bcc. I'm not sure if I did it corretly as there is nothing pending and it's been 12 hours! Could it be that busy?I tried again but can't seem to find the qr for coinbase again....any thoghts please!
What do you mean you were sending it to another wallet - is it your own personal wallet? You can check the transaction on Blockchain.info using the transaction ID. If it hasn't gone through or doesn't show on the blockchain contact Coinbase support.
Thanks you @thecryptofiend for your wonderful advice! It will help a lot of people to stay away from this scam.
Thanks for sharing!
Be careful
No problem, glad it helps.
My plan is to keep my bitcoin as steem :D but I guess I don't really have that much, to begin with...
Scammers just need any opportunity possible to take from others , it happens all the time and that's why we need to be very careful with our decisions and not just think of the money @thecryptofiend
sucks :)
Yes.

Thanks pal, but some newbie who just believe everything they read would fall for it.
That's why spreading the word is important.
Thank you for your valuable and timely post. Upvoted.
You're welcome!
I have yet to buy any type of coin (still saving up) but thank you for this warning. I'm passing it along to help spread the word.

You're welcome!
Thanks for the reminder 😁 #SpreadLoveNotFUD
You're welcome!
Scammers always take these advantage of these things because they know due to fear and uncertainty they can trap people and people will not go through the depth of it or do some research on their own and fall prey to it.
Be careful from scame, and continue update or change your security password
Very true.
So it would be better to educate them. You are doing a great work here by spreading the awareness. Have you visited my recenlty dramatic art post of a shepherd.
It's very cool. I have voted on that post.
