Pencils are one of the most important tools of an artist. They come in different shapes, sizes, colours and types.
The raw materials needed to make a pencil includes
•Wood
•Graphite
•Rubber
• Brass or aluminum
•Clay
Alot goes into the production of pencils. Let's take a look
(1) Clay and graphite are placed in the graphite crushing machine. The machine crushes them to powdered form and water is added then to the mixture for it to mix.
(2)After three days of mixing, the sludge passes through another process of grinding that turns the it into powder. Water is added to the powder and mixed to form a paste.
(3)The lead is then left to dry after which it is put in an oven that is to be heated at 1800 degrees Fahrenheit. This is done to make the lead smooth , hard and good for writing.
(4)A machine cuts the wood into slats (halves). One of which the lead is placed in and one that covers the lead in a sandwich manner.
(5)The pencils are cut out from the sandwich vertically hence it's shape.
(6)The pencils are painted, a metal ring (ferrule) is pressed at the top holding the eraser in place.
(7)Finally the company logo is pressed on the pencil with a pressing machine.
That's how you make a pencil.
