Upcoming Bitcoin Forks - More free money?

in #bitcoin7 years ago

I just wanted to post a complete list for December of all upcoming Bitcoin Hard Forks so that you guys know when you should HODL your BItcoin to get some more free money.

Of course nobody know how much they are going to be worth it.

Super Bitcoin Hard Fork at block 498,888

The expansion war over the past three years has severely hindered the development of the bitcoin technology. Bitcoin has lost a tremendous share of the cryptocurrency market due to aggressive competition coming from the likes of Ethereum and ZCash. The bitcoin community has therefore gathered a group of enthusiasts and developers who share the goal of revitalizing bitcoin dominance. The fork will take place at block height 498888, after which new functionalities will be added to the forked chain. The original bitcoin holders will be compensated with one super BTC for every BTC held.

Lightning Bitcoin Hard Fork at block 499,999

Lightning Bitcoin is a fork of the Bitcoin blockchain. By adopting DPoS consensus mechanism with 2M blocksize, Lightning Bitcoin will improve transaction speed, promote decentralization and support smart contracts. Lightning Bitcoin combines the advantages of Bitcoin and Ethereum and creates a more valuable and functional blockchain system.

Bitcoin Platinum on 23.12.

Bitcoin Platinum Hard Fork at block 500 000

Bitcoin Platinum is a fork of the Bitcoin blockchain that will occur in December. At the predetermined block height, Bitcoin Platinum miners will begin creating blocks with a new proof-of-work algorithm, and this will cause a bifurcation of the Bitcoin blockchain. The original Bitcoin blockchain will continue on unaltered, but a new branch of the blockchain will split off from the original chain. The new branch is a distinct blockchain with the same transaction history as Bitcoin up until the fork, but then diverges from it. As a result of this process, a new cryptocurrency will be born.

Bitcoin GOD on 25.12.

Bitcoin GOD Hard Fork at block 501 225

Ending the current Bitcoin forking chaos, restoring decentralized blockchain like Bitcoin and addressing the inherent congestion in Bitcoin. Enpowering a better blockchain community and allowing for continued development of blockchain technology。
Other forks are formed on the basis of "companies". They are essentially fee-for-profit IFOs, disguised as ICOs. GOD does not allow for pre-digging or issuance of additional tokens. It is solely owned and maintained by the broader community and users.while being developed and maintained by developers all over the world。

Segwit2x Hard Fork at block 501 451

Commission and transaction speed within the Bitcoin network has reached extraordinary values. It is almost impossible to use it as a means of payment.
Our team will carry out the Bitcoin hard fork, which was planned for mid-November. At the same time, trading of its futures has been carried out on some exchanges for a long time. HitBTC is among them.

Bitcoin Uranium block snapshot unknown yet

Bitcoin Uranium is a fork of the Bitcoin blockchain that will occur in December. At the predetermined block height, Bitcoin Uranium miners will begin creating blocks with a new proof-of-work algorithm, and this will cause a bifurcation of the Bitcoin blockchain.

Of course I am not 100% certain if those hard forks are really going to happen at those dates.
Segwit2x was also canceled and delayed back in mid November.
I just wanted to give a roadmap what may happen in December with our Bitcoins.

Thank you so much for reading and have a great day!

Cheers!

Can you explain what the forks mean for a noob?

Thanks for replying! Sure I can:

Forks are basically a split of the original Bitcoin Blockchain. The team behind the new fork creates a new coin and trys to improve the issues Bitcoin currently still has as for example:

  • Slow transactions
  • High fees
  • Only few transactions per second
  • ...

So since it is a split of the original chain everybody who is holding Bitcoin at the time when the team splits/forks the chain also receives the new created coin like it happened with Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin Gold already.

But you have to hold your Bitcoin in a wallet or exchange which supports the new coin as well.
Binance for example does a very good job and supports almost every new fork but keeping your Bitcoin on exchanges is very risky of course.
So you could move your Bitcoin to Binance slightly before the fork and as soon as the fork happened (Block Time) you could remove it from Binance again to your save wallet.

Makes sense. Thanks for the explanation - i really do wish all the exchanges would handle all of the coins. It's a pain having to open up new accounts everywhere ;)

Yeah totally agree with you!
Feeling the same pain as probably everybody of us does. 😁

I have some BTC on Coinbase (since summer). If I pull my BTC off Coinbase and put it on my Ledger Nano will all the forked coins all show up at once?

Hi redwood419 !

I am sorry but unfortunately not. You would had to hold them on your Ledger during the exact time when the Fork did happen. But I think Coinbase should have given you your BCash at least and they should show up on your Coinbase account as well if you have not sold or transfered them yet.

Thanks. Makes sense! Yes...Bcash in in there. I guess if they choose to support some of the forks in the future I will get them. But it's up to Coinbase I guess since they have the private keys. Is this correct?
