I don't own any bitcoin or xrp yet but if I were a bullish investor, it wouldn't matter the price point that I enter because I have seen the charts for bitcoin and it seems like after every 50% crash it sets a new high. As far as selling before an extreme crash like you stated, I wouldn't sell because for me if I did invest in these cryptocurrencies, it would be for the long run. I wouldn't invest any more than I would be willing to lose completely. Some make great money by trading in the buy low, sell high tactic but that wouldn't be my goal if I entered the market.
