According to recent statistics, the cumulative amount of money pledged to funding projects on Kickstarter, between July 2012 and August 2018, was around 3.8 billion US dollars. Another 1.5 billion US dollars was raised through Indiegogo.
While, in only the first five months of 2018, ICOs (initial coin offerings) raised $13.7 billion, almost doubling the roughly $7 billion raised in 2017 — which makes crypto crowdfunding much more effective in terms of fundraising.
This successful fundraising happened despite legal uncertainties and governmental bans that surrounded crypto associated projects, and ICOs specifically.
The crypto world has come up with its own marketing tricks, since blockchain innovators often have to work with small budgets and no access to seed money or angel capital when they are starting out. One of the only tools they have in hand is the ability to talk to like-minded people and build community.
Unlike traditional crowdfunding, crypto projects are now banned from advertising on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
So what marketing and promotional tactics can be taken from crypto?
How to promote kickstarter or Indiegogo campaign.
Bounty marketing — This is a community building strategy that helps strengthen and expand the community of close circle supporters, and bring initial funding in. Based on our 3 years of statistics, for a well designed campaign, 40% of Bounty supporters convert into pledgers and refer a friend.
Social media strategy — Social media marketing should be integrated into bounty campaigns, and include Telegram and Twitter. According to our internal analytics, 68% of Telegram users participated in at least one Coin Offering event, and oftentimes use Telegram to discover new projects. It is also worth mentioning that Telegram had planned its own ICO in May, but cancelled their plans later despite wide support and anticipation from the public.
Roadshow Marketing — Even if you don’t have funds to get a booth at an expo or negotiate a speaking opportunity, you can promote your project by organizing a local meetup or web streaming session that will allow your supporters to ask questions and make sure you’re real. (This trick is successfully performed by crypto founders).
