Expedia, the online travel agency that has been one of the largest merchants to accept Bitcoin since 2014, has already stopped accepting (silently, trying to go unnoticed) the cryptocurrency, forcing users to seek alternative travel services .
Marketexclusive.com reported that an Expedia spokesperson confirmed that the company does not accept Bitcoin for hotel or flight reservations and that it evaluates alternative payment options. The spokesman said the company apologized for the inconvenience because there was no prior notice of the change.
The news points out that Expedia faced frequent problems with Bitcoin payments, including customer dissatisfaction with the waiting time of payment processes, a frantic refund process and that some customers discovered that they had to pay with their credit card even after to pay in bitcoins.
In response, Expedia did not respond to the multiple requests for comments requested by the CCN. Nor did he mention his decision to stop accepting Bitcoin on the company's website or in his first quarter financial report.
