There are bitcoin wallet debit cards already in existence in the US. So to say that you can't buy anything with it just isn't true.

That said the speed and cost of bitcoin transactions have the potential to become a fatal flaw if not corrected. If the bitcoin "bubble" ever pops that will be the reason.
