Bitcoin lost nearly $1,000 in value over the past week after testing $5,000 for the first time ever on September 2. We’ve had some rumors of the People’s Bank of China potentially banning Bitcoin and shutting down the most prominent exchanges, and that has put some major dampers on any kind of price recovery in the short term.
Most long-time Bitcoiners are pretty used to these kinds of wild price swings though, but the newcomers are understandably quite shaken by such a big drop.
To them I say: HODL.

I've been studying bitcoin for the last few months, and decided to buy in 2 weeks ago... Talk about the worst timing in the world, EVER! ;)

Same here. Excited about the blockchain technology and decided to invest a bit in different projects that look good to me and trade a little. Missed my chance to sell out and now I'm stuck holding. Good news is it's looking like a good time to pony up a little more to try and recoup your losses. If you're brave enough. I'm going to ledger my high end and throw another couple hundred in the mix.
Happens to so many. Dollar cost average it. Buy on a schedule, same amount. You'll buy cheap as it goes down, and gain value as it goes up.
I feel ya. I got in right after the Labor Day drop and was convinced I was buying at a temporary low that would correct itself soon... may be in for a longer ride (or ignominiously shorter) than I thought.
I honestly think cryptocurrency will be a major player in society's finances in the future, but not until transaction fees are brought under control. I knew a correction was incoming.
Nobody will favor a currency that costs more to use than the item they're buying.
I agree, but the fees are really low now. I sent a couple of transactions for 1 satoshi/byte yesterday and those got confirmed. It's just wallets that set the fees way too high

It is just like we are at war over the future of money. I hodl because I believe in Bitcoin. I hodl because I have truely enjoyed being a part of the revolution!
I live in China and read the updates by the Chinese government and the banks, definitely did some damage there haha. HODL
