A recent Communiqué reveals that the police authorities of the Tocantins region, in Brazil, managed to recover R $ 710,000 in bitcoins (BTC) that were allegedly stolen by a group of hackers.
The investigation of the police body details that the criminals possessed the information of digital accounts of some 394 thousand people of 23 states of all the territory, to those who robbed the equivalent of 28 bitcoins, with which they tried transferences to their own accounts to carry out the payment of taxes and the purchase of luxury goods.

Our investigation has concluded that the culprits violated the security barriers of the bank accounts of the clients, as well as propitiated the use of malwares, added to the invasion of routers, which already presented vulnerabilities.
It should be noted that after an investigation that began last May, the authorities managed to decipher the passwords of the virtual wallets in digital currencies and the bank accounts of the cybercriminals, from where they seized the stolen funds; as well as confiscated vehicles and luxurious real estate that they had acquired with said capital.
According to an official report, the bitcoins were negotiated at a rate of R $ 24,820 for each unit; but so far only the equivalent of R $ 710,479.95 Brazilian reais has been recovered, transferred to an official judicial accounts.
In the face of such acts, the authorities have issued, so far, about five temporary arrest warrants and seven search warrants in the regions of Tocantins and Goiás; in addition to blocking the accounts of the guilty parties, where more than 1 million reais was found.
Recall that the country has been more exposed to exchanges with cryptocurrencies since the second quarter of the year, during which not only residents have shown a greater interest in digital commerce, but even exchanges such as "Huobi" have claimed to have plans to expand its financial services to the territory.
