BitCoinCash - Claim Yours NOW - A Full Guide (I Just Claimed Mine!)

in #bitcoin7 years ago (edited)

Have you been patiently waiting to claim your Bitcoin Cash? Now, you finally can through the Exodus Wallet!

I had been waiting on news for when they would finally implement a solution for those of us holding Bitcoin (BTC) at the time of SegWit to claim our BCH.

They had released a statement about a day after SegWit saying they were working on a solution to potentially offer the ability to hold BCH inside of Exodus - but then it went completely silent afterward.

No news came for weeks.

I was playing around in my Exodus wallet today and happened to stumble upon this little-hidden button - a green magic money button!

They finally implemented the ability to claim BCH equivalent to the amount of Bitcoin that you had in your wallet at the time SegWit occurred!

I was only holding around $120 worth of Bitcoin at the time (roughly 0.04 BTC) during SegWit, and I had nearly lost hope of ever seeing any BCH from them.

I'm happy to announce that I've officially claimed my Bitcoin Cash in the amount of 0.03859632 BCH with a small TX fee - the only downside is that Exodus is NOT supporting BCH inside of their wallet, so you'll have to send it elsewhere (I had mine sent to my Bittrex account, and it immediately showed up as "Pending" after initiating the transfer").

So, if you have an Exodus wallet and had Bitcoin in it during SegWit, and haven't yet gotten any Bitcoin Cash, get your ass on there and claim yours NOW!

To do so, it's very simple:

  • Log in to Exodus
  • Click on "Help" on the bottom left panel.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the options. The last one will say "How Do I Claim My Bitcoin Cash (BCH)?"
  • Click the button, click "Claim My Bitcoin Cash Now!", and then enter your BCH external wallet address.
  • Hit "Send", and that's it! They say it may take 1-2 hours to completely clear, but like I said, my Bittrex account is already showing my BCH pending inside my account.

BCH is currently trading at $636.27 on Bittrex as of writing this post, which is a nice jump up from where it was not long ago.

Hopefully some of you can claim your long forgotten BCH now! Hope this helps someone :D

Exodus now offers its newest iteration Eden, it is unsupported/experimental as of now but offers many more tokens including BCH (Bitcoin Cash), so if we want to store our BCH off exchange we can. https://www.exodus.io/eden/ Check it out.

    Great write-up!
I have my btc in in blockchain.info and are currently waiting for them to activate BCH. I think I could export the private key and store it elsewhere, but I haven't checked out other wallets supporting BCH.
Will check it out in more detail.

    Thanks Daniel!

Unfortunately, I don't think exporting your keys and importing them elsewhere would work, as each exchange/wallet has taken "snapshots" of each account on their system and how much value in bitcoin each user had, so that they would know how much they should be credited. If that were the case, one could theoretically take their private key from one exchange, import it to another, have the coins generated, then wait and have the the coins generated and claimed from the original exchange once available.

As for other wallets supporting BCH, I know Bittrex for a fact, (they call it BCC), but other than that I'm not 100% sure - Polo might, but you know I'll never touch them again after all the BS I went through haha.

Hope you get your BCH soon bro - I am glad I finally got mine, and I helped @SkinnyThames pick his up today using this too!

So if I had my BTC in another wallet at the time of the split, I have to send it to an exchange's wallet like Exodus and then claim my BCH? I only had a couple hundred at the time, but I don't want to be sending my BTC all over the place to claim BCH and incur a bunch of fees because I don't know what I'm doing.

Unfortunately it doesn't work like that - you have to claim your BCH from whatever wallet/exchange it was in at the time the "snapshot" was taken, i.e. right before SegWit. So you would have to claim it from wherever your BTC was at during that time.

This guide is mainly for those that held funds in Exodus - they had not even announced anything for almost a month regarding BCH, and after some digging yesterday I managed to find a hidden little button allowing us to finally claim what was rightfully ours.

Where were your BTC being held?

Ah gotcha. Mine are on Counterparty...and I don't think they are supporting BCH. Thanks anyway!

They may not support BCH, but they technically should still allow you to claim yours. BCH was issued for every single BTC token in existence, so that means that they received BCH for each BTC token in their accounts, they just aren't giving them out. Which is bullshit.
