Did Satoshi Nakamoto delete his bitcoins?

in #bitcoin7 years ago

It has been said for years that Satoshi had deleted his coins, as they posed too much of a liability to him personally. This thought is of course relevant because he has such a sizeable sum. While others believe he was forced to delete this vast fortune for the betterment of the bitcoin itself, and that it was necessary for the value to reach a point in which it could finally substantiate itself.

Both of the aforementioned theories of why he deleted his bitcoins is supported by valid reasoning, and we also know he has not spent them for several years, perhaps after this or another realization.

Are you a believer that he really did delete them like so many believe? What other reasons may people have missed in this assessment?

Great story

Thanks. I don't know if serious lol.

cheeky

A lot of this is conjecture.

Seriously, who can answer this question ? ;-)
But I like your hypothesis !

Maybe oneday we will know the truth! :)

if we would be able to provide his BTC address and check the "history", we might be able to answer that.
Is that even possible, to "delete" BTCs from the block-chain?

Well if the wallet was destroyed, they could not be recovered!

you mean, the private key was "destroyed"? Well, we still should be able to see the tokens on the blockchain.

correct. They will just not be recoverable at that point.

If this is true:
From the 1814400 BTC awarded, 1148800 BTC has never been spent (63%) - should be the amount of BTC Satoshi mined.

THis is a decent amount of BTCs :)

On other hand, its still dangerous to have that many BTCs possible accessible by a single entity. Dont want to think about the price drop, if he would suddenly "recovered" his private keys :)

We actually know some of his addresses :), they were the first ones mined :P

Perhaps he gave up hope and sold them for a slice of Pizza.

Despair in an island of grease.

Well i hear.... Satoshi was 200 years old by the time he made btc so I think he didn't care for it.
