The London Bitcoin Forum is officially a scam

There’s no secret in the idea that internet scams are a common thing. With the appearance of cryptocurrencies, scam attempts have increased in percentage, as they usually allow scammers to accept money, without leaving much of a trace behind.Recently, a couple of news sites published a PR about the reported London Bitcoin Forum, a place piling up over 60 experts from the digital currency world, along with more than 20 media partners and over 900 attendees. Too bad it’s nothing more than a scam.Just a couple of days before the ‘event’, the team behind it started sending out mails to members of the bitcoin world, inviting them to join the conference. News quickly spread and in a couple of days, everyone started talking about the event. Luckily, some people decided to investigate, as there were a couple of suspect aspects associated with the event.Once questions started pouring in, those who were reported as participating stated that they were never contacted by the event organizers. In fact, the QEII Centre in London, which is the venue where it was supposed to be held publicly affirmed that they had no reservation on the 23th and 24th of March. What’s definitely unpleasant about the situation is the fact that there surely are tons of people who have purchased tickets for the event- advertised at 75 pounds for students, 115 pounds for early birds and 160 pounds for last-minute purchases. The payments were processed by the Coinkite platform, which will decide what to do to keep things from getting out of control. The first act that needs to be carried out is to stop all payments going towards the organization, to prevent others from getting scammed. The ‘organizers’ of the event have been contacted by numerous media outlets, with no replies so far. Additionally, the hosting company keeping their site up has also been contacted by the public, and warned about the scammy nature of the site.Have you sent out any money to the so-called London Bitcoin Forum? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.EDIT: The hosting company just took the site down. It now redirects to the firm’s website.
