I have only used coinbase to purchase bitcoin a few times and I have to admit it was a rather loathsome process. I now prefer to use https://bitquick.co/ . The fees are minimal and I have always received the bitcoin I paid for within 3-5 hours.
I once had to wait 24 hours for my bitcoin to arrive, but the fee was waived when I did finally receive it. They currently only offer purchases through bank deposits, which are really easy. I like to tell the bank tellers that I am buying bitcoin by depositing USD into other peoples bank accounts. Most of them do not care, but I have hooked a few into asking more questions.
