What are your guys opinion on the new service from Coinbase? Do you feel crypto is at the point where people will use it to buy bananas, coffee, etc?
Personally, I feel we’re still far off the day where crypto is used as a currency regularly. Even though this is the ultimately the goal, adoption has just begun and mass adoption is still further down the road.
Coinbase would be better off working on current needs instead of working on irrelevant at the time case uses. Adding Stop Limit Orders is high on public demand, Canadian residents still can’t cash out gains, and other updates/changes are far more relevant and NEEDED.
So, are you going grocery shopping with your crypto?
Are you talking about Coinbase Commerce? I wasn't clear on what new service you were talking about so I had to look it up.
I think Coinbase Commerce is an excellent concept and very relevant. I'm surprised that so far there hasn't been any other significant attempt at creating such a service. This makes cryptocurrencies more relevant as it encourages businesses to accept crypto payments and easily get involved in the crypto economy.
If you want features like limit orders etc, you're better off taking your money and assets to a dedicated exchange. There are already plenty around. Plus I'd rather trade on say Kraken's rates rather than Coinbase's.
To a certain extent, I agree. Though, crypto isn’t at the point of being a “common currency” as no one is willing to spend it on everyday products/services.
So yes, it’s an important step in the crypto space but IMO, it’s one we’re still far off from requiring.
As for other exchanges, I agree as Coinbase only trades 4 coins currently yet is the largest most commonly used. SO MANY people are still in the side lines waiting for ease and convenience to come to the market. With ease and convenience, mass adoption will be expedited, then the need for this sort of thing will be relevant.
