New Bitcoin Miners Announced - Canaan.io Avalon 821 / 841 / 861/ 921 / 10 Series Miners

Dear Steemit Friends,

Today marks a new day in a soon to be a more competitive market of Bitcoin ASIC miners with a hope for healthy competition that will help drive mining equipment prices down for smaller home miners. Canaan.io just tweeted and released an announcement for their development and release plans for their next generation of miners - The Avalon 821 as well as their next line of miners.

You can see the announcement post HERE on their website.

Canaan plans to manufacture their last shipment of Avalon 741s and 761s, which they will end-of-life after and begin working on the next generation of Avalon 821s and 841s.

Pictures below from the Canaan.io website

The Avalon 821s will clock at a standard hash rate of 11 TH using 1200 Watts of Power - this is not as efficient as the S9s currently offered by Bitmain, but will hopefully be at a more reasonable price in order to compete - and hopefully quieter like the previous Avalons before it. The expected ship date for the first small shipment of Avalon 821s is end of January (Q1 2018) with additional orders and shipments picking up in February and March.

The Avalon 841s are expected to increase the mining efficiency to 13 TH at 1200 Watts, although no ship date has been determined yet. The Avalon 861 will then follow with an integrated power supply - something Bitmain miners do not offer.

Prices for the above mentioned miners has not yet been determined and will be based on the demand and the price of BTC at the time of production and sale. Canaan has committed to providing updates as timelines, and pricing are finalized, however given the history of their updates, I wouldn't hold my breath. Hopefully they will surprise us and give us an update soon.

In a time where ASICs are rare and demand is high, hopefully more competition will help make these miners more affordable and available for smaller miners like myself. Im looking forward to and hoping that the Avalon 8 series, 9 series, and eventual 10 series will bring about more efficiency at lower costs.

Only time will tell. I'm hoping that I will get the opportunity to purchase, unbox, and review these units once they are available. Keep checking back for updates!

Good news.
This was really needed.
Some geografic divesity woul be nice too.

Yep. Hopefully we will see this for order soon! We need the competition now :D

So these are similar to the Antminers? Why isn't there a lot of competition in these ASIC miners if demand is so high?

They are similar, but not as efficient. Different manufacturer. In the past, Avalons were quieter then Antminers as well but offered less efficiency for the price. Bitmain has cornered the market and of all the Asic manufacturers has been the one company that has thrived and survived.

You would think competition should be greater given that the demand is so high, but unfortunately, other companies are having a hard time competing for whatever reason. Hopefully though these will be able to bring about some much needed competition

Is it worth hooking up an Avalon 7 if you have one or are they obsolete ?

I read that they are stopping production on the Avalon 7. I assume it's profitability is going down.

Yep and they are working on the next generation of miners

With the current price of Bitcoin, it is still profitable
