On July 17, we launched the Meet Africa's Blockchain Startups article series to introduces startups that are leveraging blockchain technology and cryptocurrency to develop innovative new solutions that aim to change the status quo of business, banking and other sectors in Africa.

BitHub Africa is a Nairobi-based, blockchain-centric accelerator founded in 2016 by former BitPesa employee John Karanja.
BitPesa is a bitcoin startup that is transforming how businesses make international payments in Sub-Saharan Africa.
BitMari is a bitcoin wallet provider and remittance service that seeks to deploy bitcoin technology to drive financial inclusion in Zimbabwe through diaspora remittances.
Cryptogene is a new Nigeria-based startup that is building a hub to bring blockchain technology to the mainstream in Africa through education and the development of blockchain tools for individuals as well as organizations.
Kobocoin is a decentralised peer-to-peer digital currency and micro payment system. It was created by Felix Onyemechi Ugoji, a Nigerian entrepreneur and developer based in the UK.
South Africa-based Custos Media Technologies aims to fight online media piracy using blockchain technology.
Luno (formerly known as BitX) is a bitcoin startup that aims to empower individuals through the safe and easy use of bitcoin for payments and as an investment.
A team of entrepreneurs is planning to launch a blockchain-based digital currency called UBU (Universal Basic Unit) that aims to economically empower lower income South Africans.
The Blockchain Academy is an educational institution that enables individuals, entrepreneurs, developers, and organisations to learn about the innovative potential of bitcoin and blockchain technology.
GeoPay is a South African fintech startup founded in 2014 that offers peer-to-peer remittance services that run on the blockchain.
Bitland is a Ghana-based blockchain startup that is utlitising blockchain technology to provide land registry services.
Founded in 2015, Cape Town-based startup The Sun Exchange connects people who want to invest in clean solar energy with projects in Africa.
Harare-based BitFinance is one of the leading bitcoin startups in Zimbabwe. In 2015, BitFinance received funding to start BitFundi, Zimbabwe’s first and only local bitcoin exchange.
