Facebook just anounced it's new ambitious project called "Libra" and has already attracted the attention of various international and financial institutions. In order to show shed some light over this attempt to banish Bitcoin as a means of payment let me introduce an analogy: A tree grows out of a central branch and as time passes it develops new branches to fulfill it's necesities (i.e to recieve energy from the sun and to produce its offsprings). Bitcoin as such behaves in a very similar way, it produces a central branch called the Blockchain where everything is stored as a public ledger. Its individual branches represent new transactions being added to the main branch as they get validated by miners. Facebook's new cryptocurrency "Libra" departs from this analogy of the tree by producing a centralized ledger (or main branch) where everyone's identity and payments are stored as information for them to use as they see fit (i.e selling this information to other companies). This means that Libra, contrary to the bitcoin ideal of decentralization and anonimity, wants to venture into a world where personal information becomes a new form to control and supression of the freedoms of its users. Bitcoin on the other hand maintains a public ledger (main branch) in which it's participants can participate anonymously but still get the benefit from having the transaction information at hand which allows for a truly decentralized and anonimous experience of transfering value. Remember, it is always easier to maintain your freedom than to be able to recover it once it has been taken from you and, in this sense, Bitcoin becomes a key ingredient in preserving the freedom of every individual over nations and oligarchies. Always take the time needed to learn about the real beneficiaries of a new technology and never let your freedom be coerced by a third party.
Facebook acaba de anunciar su nuevo proyecto llamado "Libra" y ya ha atraido la atención de varias compañias internacionales e instituciones financieras. Para poder esclarecer este tema y este nuevo intento de desbancar a Bitcoin como un medio de pagos dejenme introducir una analogía: un arbol crece desde un tronco central y a medida que pasa el tiempo desarrolla nuevas ramas para cumplir sus necesidades (por ejemplo recibir energia del sol y producir su descendencia). Bitcoin como tal se comporta de una manera similar; produce una rama central denominada blockchain donde todas las transacciones se guardan como un registro público. Sus ramas individuales son añadidas a la rama principal a medida que son validadas por los mineros. La nueva cryptomoneda de Facebook "Libra" se distancia de esta analogía del arbol produciendo un registro central donde la identidad de todos y todos sus pagos son guardados como información para ellos poder usarla como vean factible ( por ejemplo vendiendo dicha información a otras compañias). Esto significa que Libra, al contrario que el ideal de Bitcoin sobre descentralicación y anonimato, quiere aventurarse hacia un mundo en donde la información personal se convierte en más formas de control y supresión de las libertades de sus usuarios. Bitcoin por otro lado mantiene un registro público (rama principal) en el cual los participantes pueden participar anonimamente pero seguir recibiendo las ventajas sobre acceso a la informacion de sus transacciones lo cual permite una experiencia de transmisión de valor en un sistema verdaderamente descentralizado y anonimo. Recuerden, siempre es más facil mantener las libertades personales que recuperarlas una vez las hemos ido cediendo y, en este sentido, Bitcoin se convierte en un ingrediente clave para preservar las libertades de todos los participantes sobre las naciones y las oligarquias. Tomense su tiempo siempre para aprender sobre tecnologias nuevas y los verdaderos beneficiados en usarlas y nunca dejen que sus libertades sean coartadas por terceras partes.
