Thousands of government websites around the world have been hacked in parallel operations in which hackers have sought to use site visitors in digital coin-mining operations such as Bitcoin and Etherium.

Among the hacked sites in Britain are the British Government site, the Office of the Operations Commissioner, the National Health Service, the Manchester City Council, the US courts, and hundreds of other sites for central and local governments.

The hacked sites were exposed to a malicious program called Quenhaev, which hid in site codes while harnessing the energy of devices visiting sites in mining operations.

According to a report in the newspaper "Telegraph" British, it was not determined after the period of time in which the sites were hacked.

Some of the British government sites attacked were temporarily closed.

"This is not a new type of attack, but it is among the largest in the world," said information security researcher Scott Helmy. "If a single company's site is compromised, thousands of sites in Britain, Ireland and the United States are affected."
