cryptocurrency miners like Bitcoin are widespread. Now, turn apps on Macs infiltrated by programs that deplete the device.

An app contained in the Mac App Store is known to run cryptocurrency mining activities openly. Is Calendar 2, the application that is actually used to design the schedule of its users.

The developer of Calendar 2, Qbix, inserted a miner named xmr-stack for the application to generate a digital currency called Monero. Cryptocurrency This one is more anonymous than Bitcoin, given the transactions made in it can not be seen openly

To run this miner, user consent is required by turning on paid premium features. Xmr-stack itself is the default feature of the premium package. Immediately after the user's approval, this miner will also operate immediately

Not only has the miners, the founder of Qbix himself, Gregory Magarshak, said that Calendar 2 turned out to have two bugs. This makes it impossible to work as expected, especially for its miner features.

The first bug causes the miners in the app to work unlimitedly. Even this incident is still going on after the user changes the settings.

While the second bug makes miners consume more power than the devices that run it. Qbix itself fixes xmr-stack to use 10% to 20% of Mac computer power.

Magarshak admitted that it got a lot of messages from a number of users who asked Qbix to update the application as soon as possible. It made him decide to remove the miner features in the latest version of Calendar 2.

"We decided to remove the miners within this application," said Magarshak. "The company that provides the miner does not provide his source code, so it will take a long time to fix the problems that hit the CPU."

"Applications that seem to run cryptocurrency mining without the permission of our users do not feel in accordance with work ethic and vision in Qbix We hope the removal of this miner will be a role model for other applications," he added
