Males _(especially in the bird kingdom)_ love to impress females, during mating season the Southern Red Bishop (Afrikaans: Rooivink) pull out all the stops, feathers transform into orange/red with black underbelly, resulting in a magnificent contrast of colours.

Now nest building is something to be tested, inspected the male can look as splendid, pleasing to the eye, if unable to pass building a strong, sturdy nest, he fails she will move on and find the next nest to test. He will normally build a few nests to attract females with his skills, no one really knows whether the females select to stay due to his building technique or whether they arrive randomly, it does appear female nest choice according to ideal free distribution in territories with highest number of available vacant nests at time of making a choice.

An oval shaped nest built between the reeds along river banks or dams, intricate weaving ensuring water and wind proof. Additional nests assist if accepted he could mate with three to eights females during breeding season, normally breeding takes place at the end of August going into Spring down South of the equator.

The male builds about 3-13 nests per breeding season, with each taking about 1-3 days to complete, tightly weaving thin strips of reeds and grass to form an oval-shaped structure with a side entrance covered by a hood. It is typically attached to reeds, sedges or bulrushes, or occasionally in crops such as maize.

Very interesting information and in aceh it seems I have never seen this bird. thanks for sharing

Thanks for visiting @deltasteem

Birds have taught us humans to be independent, as in your post, birds make nests to feed their children, very useful information. Thank you

They are also territorial, bicker and fight among one another, yes we learn from everything in life.

So cute, but those little birds used to destroy and kill my palm trees, although pretty I have never too happy seeing them building nests in my garden

Finches where I live strip the garden of palm leaves to build nest @claudiaz

Awesome skill. I doubt I could mimic that with all my fingers involved.

No it would be a case of 'knit on drop one' for me as well @reonlouw to think they only use feet and beak...

wow it is a nest?

It is a great nest, the bird is quite pretty also.

A master architect. Visiting from kryptonia

In my country, Venezuela, there are bird species that build very intricate aerial nests with amazing architecture...

Love watching the younger birds practice on our phone lines, when the wind comes up they blow up hill then slide down again, Oh well they got to learn somewhere @piccola.valeria

I see an intricate and complex weaving for the nest... no easy task indeed! These birds really work hard!

They are amazing when busy weaving nests, built quite strong as well @ackhoo

It's amazing how the birds can to build such hard-woven nests!

These particular nests hold up pretty well @eto-ka thanks for visiting.
