A.bulbul is estimated to have small population size that is suspected of undergoing a significant ongoing population due to an unquantified threat from trapping from the domestic cage bird trade exacerbated by habitat conservation and degradegation and with a typical morphology like orange spo, P. snouckaer is proposed to list the species as vulnerable.
This bird is restricted to the northern parts of Aceh province. The encounter of the Aceh birder team in 2016 is on the high ground in Aceh and it is found above 1,000 m at the tree and has been described as uncommon. Trapping for the bird trade is ongoing in the region and is suspected to have reduce bird population at sites holding this species
The population is suspected to decining at a slow to moderate rate because the trapping for the cage bird trade at locations from the species and observations of disappearance of the species from one of very few currently known locations (Eaton and collar 2015)
The population size is tentatively estimated placed in rhe band of 2.500-9.999 mature individual based on an asseeement of known records, descriptions of budance and range size. This is consistent with recorded population density setimates for congeners or close relatives with a siliar body size, and the fact that only a proportion of the estimated extent of Occurrence is likely to be occupied.
