The most common upgrade to most bikes is wheels.
They often save some weight, improve rolling speed and look nice. Plus they make us feel better, and as we all know, sometimes that feeling is as good as any update.
I will look at three sets of wheels that are a great upgrade.
Fulcrum Racing Quattro LG Alloy Clincher Wheelset
Typically retailing for around $275 USD, these wheels weigh in at 1725 gram so not the lightest. But they roll smoothly and are a great training wheel upgrade for most bikes.
DT Swiss RR 21 Dicut Alloy Clincher
Any DT Swiss wheel is a great bet, these rims come in at $550 USD, weighing only 1450 grams these are step up from the Fulcrums.
The strength and stiffness from such a lightweight set of wheels is also impressive, especially considering the 110kg maximum rider weight limit.
Mavic Cosmic Pro Carbon Exalith Road Wheelset
This is the next level, Carbon, with a 45mm deep section to improve aerodynamics. Coming in at $1100 USD, and weighing only 1600 grams.
Mavic are brand name in cycling that's been around since day dot. These wheels have a good write up, but I have heard negative points on Mavic hub bodies. Something to watch as you edge towards the end of the warranty. The alternatives such as Roval, Enve and Zipp command a fir few more dollars.
