During the royal visit to Canada, the flag of Germany was mistaken for flag of Belgiam and King Philip and Queen Matilde was welcomed with the wrong flag

On Monday (March 12th) Canada's Governor General Julie Paet was standing near the flag of Canada in front of the residence of the black, red and yellow flag. The mix-up was attributed to Belgium and Germany’s flags sharing the same color scheme of red, black, and yellow; the design of the flags, however, are very different: Belgium’s stripes are vertical, while Germany’s are horizontal.

It is known that the flag was used to mark a tree located in the governor's house. The tree was planted during the 1977 tour of Canada of Queen Fabiola, the then Queen of Belgium. This year, the next King-Queen of Belgium was about to plant another plant beside the tree.

A spokesman for Julie Paet said that when preparing the plantation program, we noticed of the wrong flag. We changed the flag before planting the tree.

The King of Belgian arrived in Canada's Governor General's house on a open horse carriage. The members of the Royal Police Force of Canada, wearing red uniforms, were employed as their escort.

Julie Paet receives her from Queen Elizabeth II. The royal reception was done through salute with cannon fire.

King Philip thanked Canadians for taking part in the first and second world war.

He said, for the sake of independence, we owe them (both the soldiers of Canada participating in World War Two).

The Royal couple of Belgium will remain in Canada till March 17. In the meantime, they are expected to travel to Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto.
