I am staying strong for Dry January and still celebrating #beersaturday to start the year. Also, hit 393 of #beersaturday and share some of your beer adventure so I can at least enjoy your beers.
I have come to find, being The Blockchain Beerologist definitely has its perks, including but not limited to getting paid to tour breweries and sample new beers! When I am not globetrotting or brewing my own beer, my fridge looks like a colorful mosaic of regional craft beer I enjoy sharing with the #beersaturday alliance of #beer bloggers on #hive.
This week, I am exploring a few Non Alcoholic options to scratch the itch and reminiscing about a beery Christmas.
A good excuse for a social pint on the town is a trivia night for charity at a brewery with popcorn! Fear not as January is still dry with this Collective Arts Non-Alcoholic IPA I honestly have met few na IPAs I have liked and this is one of them. A mere shadow of the full test Collective Arts IPAs but passable and perfect for Dry January.
PotW 2!
for the first week, I avoided beer all together and opted for plenty of fizzy water with fresh fruit. Delicious and refreshing and plenty more healthy for sure but sometimes you wan a beer. So, we ventured to a local pub on half price burger day for a business lunch. These Guinness do look like the real thing and they honestly are not despicably far off! Again not as pleasing as the original stout, but I definitely enjoyed Guinness Zero and will most likely have another before the month is through.
Let's Brew an NA!
I am not the only one punishing myself this January. My partner at work and our brewer & his wife are also on the train. So, we distilled the alcohol out of a keg of our Golden Ale to see how it would turn out. At first, it came out a little grainy, sour and shaving creamy. When we charged it up with CO2 and poured it through the taps, it is actually not bad! Almost like a Molson or Labatt pilsner with a slight lingering sweetness and dry hop touch. Perfect for weekends while watching sports and playing an online RPG with the guys. Hopefully we will finish this keg by Feb as there are too many other beers to enjoy than to waste time with an NA, even if it is not bad.
Back to the Good Stuff
No need for you to suffer along with me entirely so here is another surprise from my Beer Advent Calendar. If you are new here, you can read back to recent #beersaturday posts for that story. Expertly wrapped Beer # 7 featured Buddy the Elf with a promising surprise.
Apparently, Sassy Britches Brewing Company doesn't even have a website and uses their Instagram profile instead. For how easy it is to have a website put together to strengthen and secure your online presence, I have no idea why they wouldn't. Still, great to discover another craft brewery in this region, this time in Brantford.
As for the beer, it is a spicy number! Jalapeno Hottie certainly is sassy in branding and style as cool & refreshing doesn't necessarily align with hot & spicy! German Purity Law purists might even be upset! Jalapeno is a pretty strong taste and I have tasted plenty of beers which just had too much additive flavours. This is not one of them! Subtle and far from overpowering was the flavour and spiciness, perhaps because the ingredients list Chilli Peppers and not Jalapenos. Definitely not underwhelming but nicely balanced with the hop/malt character and crisp carbonation.
A nice surprise to unwrap and I would definitely have this beer again. Well done Sassy Britches!
