We called them !PIMP suits when I was much younger.. I think it was LL Cool J that made them famous.. might be Kool Moe Dee.. I don't remember.. but it was a long time ago

To me, things like India Pale Lager, Smash IPA and such are just shallow attempts at standing out in a crowd. In this case, I think it is just a cool way to say session ale which are great when you want something a little lighter for a pub session or beery gathering.
