Honey Double IPA is a part of the first Croatian craft collaboration. The Garden Brewery and Pivovara Medvedgrad united their brewing knowledge for this project and crafted two beers, Hendrix Which was brewed in Pivovara Medvedgrad and Honey Double IPA which was brewed in The Garden Brewery. I live close to The Garden Brewery so I went for a beer and shopping there with a few friends. Ambient there is lovely, it is a huge room so it can fit all their barrels, which you can see behind the bar. You can also order burgers there, but the dominant aroma in the brewery is that of hops. In short, it is heaven for a beer lover. I ordered their Nitro Stout there, we drank a few beers which were on tap, bought a few canned ones and headed home.

The Garden Brewery did an amazing job, brewing this beer. It has a color of caramelized honey with only a touch of foam. The taste is a perfect blend of the bitterness of hops and sticky sweetness obtained by adding local chestnut honey to the beer. Beer is moderately carbonated and the bubbles in your mouth quickly disappear, while bittersweet aftertaste lingers in your throat. With a tropical fruit aroma and affordable price of 15 Kn (2.5 SBD at the moment), it is a beer worth drinking. If you are a beer lover passing through Croatia, give this one a try!
If you are a beer lover as well check out the #BeerSaturday challenge by @detlev!
I would easily give it a try..looks amazing.Wish we had sth similar here.Anyway, greetings from Greece!
Craft scene really grew in Croatia over past few years. A few years ago we had a really poor choice of beers, but now it is hard to keep track of all the new beers that arrived to the market. 🍺
Unfortunately,I have not tried a Croatian beer yet.
I haven't tried a Greek beer either :(
Well,we have some really good ones and some shitty ones.It depends which one you will get your hands on first.
What are some of the good? I would like to avoid possibility of getting my hands on the bad ones :)
Personally, I don't really like Alfa which is quite popular here.Bios and Z are much better in my opinion.Any good Croatian beers you suggest?
I'm a beer snob, but I would so try this one. Do you think these beers are exported too?
You can order it at their website if you live in European Union :)
Oh wow! Thank you! I live in Belgium so that should work. We have a lot of great beers but exploring beyond the borders can very much be worth it too.
Many of my favorites come from Belgium ;) I know that their delivery time for Belgium is 4-5 days, but I don't know what delivery fee is.
Cool. Thank you. I'll definitely look into it. After I finish off the Orval I just opened. :-D
Mmm Orval, I didn't have that one in a long time. Fortunately I have some more of The Garden Brewery beers in my fridge ;)
This looks really good. It's great that the craft brewery scene is rising in Croatia. I have an ignorant question: I'm in So California, so I have no idea what's going on elsewhere. (don't just agree, I haven't got to the question yet.) It's a Croatian Craft beer, but the printing on the can is in English. Is that the norm? Or special editions? Or?
Just wondering. Thanks for the tasty review. :-))
Haha, you got me to laugh with the comment in brackets :)
It is not the norm but, but The Garden Brewery is aiming for the international market as well so I think that is the reason behind it. Also, most of Croats (at least the generations who are under 40 ) speak English fluently so it isn't unusual. For example, I have never noticed the printing is in English although I have drank a lot of The Garden Brewery beers. I just went to check other beers in my fridge, and all of their beers seem to have printing in English. Now I am no longer certain about the language on printing of any product I have ever had xD
Thanks for the reply. I've just been un-ignorented. And I'm glad to add a touch of mystery to your each and every day. Even living next to Mexico I am mono-languaged. I really think I'm missing out.
Cheers, and thanks. :-))
You are missing out a bit, it is wonderful to know more than a one language. It gives you insight to different approaches to thinking in different cultures. In Croatia we start learning two foreign languages in elementary school, and my goal is to get to fluency in four foreign languages :)
Well shit. My wife speaks German, which I do envy sometimes. On the other hand, most of the time I feel I haven't mastered one language yet. Still Trying. :-))
When I come back to Croatia and we meet one day we are sharing one these beers together brother. It does seem like an awesome beer. :)
First 5 rounds are on me. lol
We will have to! Next five rounds are on me, and we will have Petra pay everything after that :)
Honey beer Whaaaat ??? were will this madness end ? :D
I prefer good porters, red ales and stouts over most of beers, but trust me this one is worth a try :)
I just joking, love beer I am sure this one is great. But I think it went too far with this and that and the price, and another thing I am from Germany beer made after the Reinheitsgebot from the year 1516 I will say no more :D
Damn the French for forcing Germany to abolish The Beer Purity Law through powers of EU!!!
German beer is still brewed after the Reihetsgebot for domestic use, exports are a different so you don't dring the same as in Germany :D Still the best beer in the World :D
Schneider Aventinus Weizen-Eisbock! Long live the king of beers!
I wonder if I will ever get to Croatia, but if I do, I would love to test this beer!!
If you don't run into this one, keep in mind that all beers from this brewery are pretty good.
This one has me thirsty. Love the style of glass you choose. I need to step up my beer glass game. I drink a lot of out frosty mugs! See you next beer saturday!
