Last Saturday I went to a local Oktoberfest here in town.It was a few small breweries from around the area. The first taste test was from Farmery Brewery. The first one I tried was their Premium Lager. It was 5% abv. It tasted good but a little creamy on the palate the head was a little on the lite side .Not a lot of froth..The next one I tried was one of their stronger beer this is their Eagle Lager 6.2% abv. This is the kind of beer you can sit and drink till the cows come home very tasty and refreshing...Very good head on it.
The next taste test was cider. This was from the Dead Horse Cider company.I'm not a cider drinker but I though I'd try it.This company makes their cider from apples and cherries. The apples are imported from B.C and the cherries are grown here on there own farm. The first one I tried was called Look on the bright cider. It's clear and has the hint of apples and sparkling water. It tasted like a sparkling wine. The next was called Cherry on good friends cider. It is dark like a red wine from the cherries used. But the sparkling water used gives it the bubbly effect.
In the next room there was another brewery called Black wheat Brewing Company. The first beer was called Great Scott. It was a light beer 4.5% avb .It wasn't clear kind of murky and it was on the bitter side.I like my beer crisp and clear .Not much of a head on it .Kind of tastey. Next up was there Slam Dunk. This is a dark wheat beer with banana and cloves. This beer is just 5% abv. Very bitter if your use to that kind of taste. The bananas are very apparent in this but for me not in beer.
Next up was Fort Garry Breweries .This company only had one beer available. It was called Fall Hall. This is made with pumpkin ,cinnamon and nutmeg .This was like drinking a pumpkin pie.You can taste the nutmeg and cinnamon. This was not really a good beer .Pumpkin is not really a flavor I would use for beer but when in Rome. This was a 5.5% abv.
Last was the Great Brewing Company. The first one was a Belgian Espirit Witbier. This was a light beer with a 4.5% abv .It was a clear beer with hints of orange and coriander. The head was good lots of froth. It tasted good the finish was clean.Their next beer was called Reality Czech. This again is a light beer with a 4.8% abv. This is a pale lager again bitter on the finish.Needless to say I wouldn't be a repeat customer.
There you have it folks. The down side to this is the brewers were not on site to answer any ?'s you may have.No reading material was there to read up on the brewers and their companies. This is the first time this was done .It is a sharp learning curve. But overall attendance was good being there were 2 rooms to the venue. Thanks for reading.
If you dropped in a few pictures, I'm sure @sagesigma and I would be drooling over some delicious beers!
