Imperial Squatch: An Amateurish Beer Review

The sasquatch is a cultural icon cryptid in the Pacific Northwest (PNW) and mountain west. Some people have signs, statues, or chainsaw-carved stumps depicting this bipedal mystery monster in their yards. It probably doesn't exist outside the collective imagination of enthusiasts, but it's still a popular marketing tool. No-Li Brewhouse is no exception.

I have previously mentioned another No-Li squatch beer, so when I saw a 19.2 oz. imperial pint can of this Imperial IPA, I wanted to give it a try. 9% ABV is pretty stout even for PNW breweries, although it's not unheard-of. Taste is malty, with only a hint of the hops I was expecting. It was not at all harsh as IPAs go at 45 IBU, and the 9% ABV was well-hidden. You can read more pompous-sounding reviews here. As for my take, it's pretty good, and I recommend it.

I'm writing this several days after drinking the beer, but it was game night, and that meant a trip to the grocery store deli for dinner. Chicken and a salad bar are pretty safe for dodging dairy. Life with food allergies makes dining on the go a bit of a gamble, but I can usually find options. Even potato chips need some scrutiny, though I always have to check the ingredients, because brands differ and sometimes recipes change without warning. It's tiring, but better than accidentally suffering hours of gastrointestinal upset.

I found a proper mug! Nice color and head.

A less-glamorous shot of dinner. The lighting was bad, and my smartphone flash did not help. Tasted OK, though.

Mug, can, and store-brand potato chips.

Game night turned out to be more of a get-together-with-friends-and-watch-comedy-specials-online-night. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. Good food, good friends, and good beer are all simple pleasures we should savor.

Ooh, I remember this imbibement, as I ingested some of those lovely salt and vinegar crisps!

The beer named after the hubs looked pretty in that mug, I am just glad you survived it and the food allergy gauntlet that night. Have no fear JT, I am making us some delightful DF garlic bread tomorrow for game night! I even bought the allergen free butter!

Huzzah! A real reply from a real person after the barrage of spam! And yay DFGB!

I just saw that massive onslaught....such a lack of manners indeed!

I takes a real genius to decide that someone who downvotes spam is best addressed with more spam.

In the unlikely event I'm ever in the PNW, I'll try some of this stuff. Meanwhile, in the unlikely event you're ever in NEPA, I'd suggest trying this stuff:

It really does taste like oranges! My local grocery store carries a whole bunch of different beers from the Wallenpaupack Brewing Company, which I've actually been to with some friends.

A beer with a striking design inspired by a famous urban legend and with a high alcohol content. I would definitely like to try it.
