A Woman’s Elegance

It's very funny: the quotes, lessons, and books on how to be a lady; to remember to chew like you have a secret, to be conscious of how you sit, to make sure your red lipstick doesn’t smear across your teeth, to inculcate the habit of saying please and thank you – because women tend to forget. Every of this drillings were given to us by our parents while growing. It really baffles me when I see how serious some ladies are trying to relearn some virtues. Does it really mean they were adamant before?
There are two types of women under the category of ‘elegance’ – which I will use interchangeably with ‘lady’ because apparently they’re both intertwined.
The first type is the woman who behaves like it:

  1. her hair is always groomed
  2. she applies perfectly winged eyeliner
  3. has flawless taste in clothes
  4. wears heels and walks with her head held high
  5. never sweats even when she exercises
  6. wouldn’t be caught in a bar with loud music
  7. is secretly a unicorn.
She’s a true lady; girls would look up to her and hope one day, they would be just like her; to be able to wear white and not spill all over it. Women, on the other hand, would buy books on elegance and read it step by step until they reach the top to finally be able to portray the wonderful, impeccable image of a lady.
If you want to be a lady, purchase a book and are ready to read it cover to cover, there will be an abundance of do’s and don’ts, but at the end they will remind you to be yourself because that’s where true elegance lies. It’s a paradox! It’s also why I decided to broadly separate two types of women, although a woman can be one and not the other, it does not mean that the two cannot be integrated and form a fantastic combination.
The second type of woman has an interior elegance, but still knows how to dress:
  8. she can stimulate interesting conversation while also listening to what others have to say and acknowledge their opinions
  9. doesn’t necessarily find herself obliged to indulge in small talk
  10. dresses according to where she’s going and does so modestly
  11. doesn’t fake anything, she’s authentic in her lady-ness
  12. seeks respect and not attention
  13. has many accomplishments yet chooses not to boast about them
  14. is not interested in the mediocrity of gossiping and judging others
  15. always remains true to herself
A combination of the two types is what allows a woman to be fabulous and unforgettable. Although people think that behaving like a lady is stoic, it’s merely a form of communication where a respectable yet strong image is translated about a woman. It would be truly effortless as she wouldn’t have to remind herself of the do’s or don’ts because she’s being herself. On the other hand, although perfect she may seem, she’s human after all. The only pedestal she’s on is the one she sets for herself. A woman is to be admired in her own skin, with her own perceptions and opinions, with her right to do as she very well pleases; her choice to be elegant is frosting on top of the cupcake!
" A woman should not swear class is defined by elegance and dignity not by vulgar language".
