Vaseline

Hi friends, I hope you're fine? I'm going to talk to you today about petroleum jelly. Everyone knows it but usually when we talk about it, we immediately think of its use as a lubricant during sex. But, it can be used in many other fields, it is very useful.

Petrolatum is a natural extract that comes from residues derived from petroleum. This is why it is also known as petroleum gelatin. It is a transparent product, dense texture and odorless.

Petrolatum provides a long list of uses and benefits that range from medical care to the solution of everyday problems.
Vaseline is a petroleum jelly, known for decades and has dozens of uses, from DIY to veterinary medicine. Its benefits to the skin are well known all over the world. Its virtues are due to two main things :

Petrolatum is fat: it is even one of the fatest substances that can be found. It therefore has a moisturizing and insulating role at a time.

It is a very well tolerated substance: since it is mineral, Vaseline does not cause allergies. And in its medicinal form, which can be found in pharmacy, it is very pure and contains no other substances. This is what allows to advise even on fragile skin or damaged.

Although it is not environmentally friendly because it is a petroleum derivative, petrolatum can be used to solve a lot of problems.

Below is a list of things you can do with this product :

Dry skin

Vaseline hydrates and insulates the skin, which prevents the evaporation of moisture contained in the skin. It is perfect for moisturizing the face that suffers during the winter.

But also, the elbows, knees and feet (I was at a podiatrist lately and she advised me for dry feet to cover them with Vaseline before going to sleep and put socks over, results guaranteed, tested and approved!).
The lips can also be hydrated with petroleum jelly, you can even make your own lip balm by melting petroleum jelly and chocolate for example, mix and let it all solidify, you will get a lip balm tasty.

Damaged skin

In case of irritation, burn or superficial injury, petrolatum can also be useful, indeed, it maintains a moisture that helps the skin to heal and protects against contact. Attention, the advice is only for small injuries, if it is more serious, consult your doctor.

Beauty

Vaseline isolates the skin from anything that could touch it. Put on your fingers around the nail before applying polish, or on your forehead when you dye your hair. So you will avoid overflowing.

It also serves to lengthen the eyelashes, indeed, it is necessary to apply a layer of vaseline on the eyelashes before sleeping and with time, they will look better, they will be longer and thicker.

It can also be used as makeup remover, indeed, instead of using oils or other creams, it is good to apply Vaseline on makeup to remove it more easily or you can use reusable microfiber cloths and washable that I use every night, no more makeup remover or cotton, it's great and practical when you go on a trip.

It is also very useful for soothing irritation after waxing and softens the skin of delicate areas.
It helps to remove dandruff too, it must be applied to the scalp before shampooing and it helps eliminate flaking and itching.

Vaseline is also used a lot to reduce the scars that persist after surgery because it stimulates cell renewal. Indeed, when I had my caesarean, I was advised to put on my scar when it was dry and closed. And yes, I had a caesarean section after 24 hours without epidural, I can say somehow that it is a war injury ; o)

It can also be applied on tattoos, indeed, tattoos are wounds and petroleum jelly helps to heal and provide flexibility and preserve their colors.

Exfoliating

Vaseline, mixed with salt or sugar is an excellent skin exfoliator.

Lubrication

Be careful, Vaseline makes the latex porous. Its use is not recommended if you use condoms, only water-based lubricants are possible in this case. However the lubricating nature of petrolatum is not only for sexual relations. It can be used to prevent all rubbing against the skin, such as in shoes to avoid blisters, for example, in summer or when we wear ladies shoes or other shoes that torture our feet.

Hair

Petrolatum in small amounts can give a better appearance to the split ends of long hair. Attention, do not exaggerate otherwise you will have your hair all fat as with the coconut fat, I put once before going to work but I put too much, it looked like I had soaked my head into a deep fryer before going to work ...

Massages

Petrolatum is ideal for massages, you can perfume it with a few drops of essential oil, it makes the skin soft and hydrated in addition to the benefits of massage.

Leather Goods

It can also be applied with a cloth on leather bags and shoes, it will make them shine.

Wow, I knew that it had plenty of uses (much like vinegar & baking soda); however, I did not know about it making your eyelashes grow. I will definately try this process! And with the scarring also.

@Indesta12282 I've heard of all this benefits, but for leather goods ?! Nice.

Oh I knew it before. But it’s interesting for other people I think 😍

Really interesting.
I guess I am one of the "other people" you are referring to😊.

Really this one is amazing.

In general, petroleum jelly isn't great for you. Like you said, it's a byproduct of the petroleum industry and isn't natural. Naturally derived oils, like coconut oil or many different essential oils, are far better for you than petroleum jelly. I'd steer clear of this junk!
