Beach Wednesday: 10,000 Islands

Island Camping in the Everglades

At least once every year some friends and I always head down to the Everglades. Sometimes we camp deep in the bush of the 'Glades by one of my secret fishing spots, sometimes we make the 8 to 10 mile paddle in kayaks packed full of gear to a remote island in the middle of the 10,000 Islands National Wildlife Refuge.
On our last trip we decided to go island camping. 10,000 Islands is full of labyrinth-like waterways and mangrove shorelines. This chain of islands is also part of the Everglades National Park system. It's amazing how much the topography of these islands changes every year I visit. This past year we decided to make the 10 mile paddle out to start at the northern tip of the chain on our first night.

Our plan from here was to head south and island-hop camp our way down over the next 3 days. I normally just sleep on the beach under the stars depending upon what time of year we're down there. However, I always bring my small bivvy tent just in case the bugs are really bad. It's just big enough to fit me and that's it, you can see how small it is behind me.

We ended up staying our remaining nights on Kyce Island because it was so nice there. Despite the name, the islands in this chain only number in the hundreds.

I can't wait until it cools down in the Fall to head back down there again this year!

Sound slike an amazing adventure in such a beautiful area

thanks @tattoodjay, it's always and adventure out there!

Oh man, that's paradise on earth this place! I also use to go camping on such small islands, you just cut off from the rest of the world! Wonderful feeling really!

you just cut off from the rest of the world!

The seclusion is one of the main draws for me. They provide a great opportunity for a 'digital detox'....no phones or anything....except cameras of course!

Oh you just made me remember the digital detox day i was organizing back during my time in the hotel!
No phones, no messages, no emails on every Wednesday! We had to go to the person and communicate face to face!

Hello again dude! I don't know if you have the time, but @teamhumble is looking for Steemians to make a short video reading one line you can choose and they give you 1 Steem to do it, if you want to know more about it go here https://steemit.com/steemcasts/@teamhumble/making-lower-thirds-in-apple-keynote-with-green-screen-back-and-basic-animations I think it's a good way to participate in the Steemit community :D

Ok thanks, I'll check it out!

That looks like a great place to explore. Any hazardous wildlife to worry about?

You would probably really enjoy Minnesota Boundary Waters. It's a huge wilderness area, with great walleye and northern poke fishing. People sometimes spend several weeks passing to the inner lakes. It's not uncommon to see moose and bears.

that sounds amazing, have always wanted to spend more time up north exploring

Some really nice picture. 10.000 islands, that are a lot of island. If you would like to visit them all, and spend 24hrs per island (incl the travel), it,ll take you about 30 years :)

haha...despite the name, there are only a couple hundred islands!

They always claim more to attract the people I suppose :)

Sounds and looks like you had a great trip. Love the beautiful pictures. It looks so calm, relaxing and peaceful. Thanks for sharing and hope you have a wonderful trip on your next one.

Beautifully captured, thanks for sharing.

Very comfortable place

absolutely, I really enjoy the seclusion out there

Yes please enjoy my friends .. hopefully one day we can gather here, in my country :-)

I think that's a hook. It's been a long time, and it's become a tree. lol

but dear @liberty-minded the Sunset was great.
