Cane sculpture
How to create Cane Sculptures:
Step 1
Pre soak Cane in hot water for approximately 5 minutes and hang out to dry.
Step 2
Make a Cane armature and ensure all joins are wrapped well with the Masking Tape.
This is very important – as the material you are using on to the armature is quite heavy when wet, it is important your base is strong and secure to support your sculpture.
Step 3
Put a small amount of the PVA/water mixture on to the Cane, start to add strips of white Tissue Paper, continue to work up solid areas of Tissue Paper, as the PVA mixture dries it becomes harder providing a strong sculpture.
Step 4
Continue this process until one layer of white tissue paper covers the whole sculpture. You may need to leave the piece to dry over night before a second layer is added.
Step 5
Once the Cane sculpture is dry a second layer of white Tissue and PVA mixture is applied – on the second layer working into the third layer, decorative and Gauze papers may be added. Once all the layers of Tissue and decorative papers are dry, other embellishments can be added – decorative threads, string etc.
