Why have a "banana-circle" when you can have a Zingiberales-circle? ;-)

Namaste y'all,
So for those into #permaculture, #agroforestry, sustainablegardening methods or for those who just like bananas- make your sacred space more dynamic with banana-circle 2.0; introducing the zingiberales-circle =D

Bananas are actually plants, not trees- in the same family as turmeric ginger and other plants in the zingiberales family; you may notice that the stalks are actually made of the leaves before they unfurl and not trunks with bark. ;-)
The circle planting is a way to save space while creating a richer deeper environment for the roots.

Here I have turmeric and ginger growing with their big brother bananas. This zingi-circle planting is only a few months old (early summer 2018)and it is about to succumb to a harvest and chop-and-drop session now that the sun is falling closer to winter.

next spring after their roots are more established it will be even more lush<3

These make great companions because while the bananas love the full sun- ginger and turmeric thrive in dappled light as understory plants; although there are many other plants that can be added as companions too...I may add more to this one as well :-)

Well for homesteading, sustainable living, medicinal gardening, companion planting, agroforestry enthusiasts- having bananas(and their leaves), ginger and turmeric around are definitely a welcome addition<3

Well observed there Lucas! The banana is really just a large zingiber-looking plant, isn´t it? Looking good there!
Are mushrooms an option for you, because they might fill a niche on the logs around the circle and under the shade of the bananas. Or how about a groundcover? Sweet potato? Hmmmm

this was a new area that I layered with cardboard and chips for new walking area around the banana circle dug-out this spring. I love mushrooms and do encourage their growth with the chips out here. Boletes and Reishi and turkey tail so far <3 Thank you for the ideas- there is a large sweet potato patch nearby :-)
