All is not as it seems. There is a “geis” on each of us. We are Told
What to believe, we are given explanations for what we see, so
That we don’t think or question; we just go along for the ride.
This is wrong. There is wonder in the world, there is magic
For the imagination to feed upon. Our imaginations are
What promises hope for the future, for progress, for
New innovations. It is so very true, that for a thing
To be invented, for a device or therapy to be
Developed, someone, somewhere had to
Imagine it first. Someone had to have
Had a dream. Don’t do anything to
Stifle yours, nor anyone else
Imagination. It is our only
"Hope for a brighter,
Better future"

In Irish, a geas (alternatives: geis, géis, deas; plural geasa) is an idiosyncratic taboo,
whether of obligation or prohibition, similar to being under a vow.
The plural is also used to mean specifically a spell prohibiting some action, common in Irish folklore and mythology.

That is a piece of ice with a very bright "inner circle"
Alf @lundsten, I thought I got that image from Pixabay, am I wrong, is this something you posted?
Here is the original> it had the file name legtomb-596506_1920 which is a format that is almost exclusive to Pixabay.
I saw the mermaid in my imagination, and it didn't take much tweaking to pull it on out of there.
This is true! Good Morning "Alfie" @lundsten ha ha 😁
This is a great poem. There is so much truth to be found inside those words and at the same time they are inspiring me to dare to dream and follow my dreams. And not only the meaning of the words is a work of art but also how you structured them. I absolutely love it! :)
Well, thank you very much @inga37, I love the way you structured your response 😉
I am so very happy you found value in my work. I used to almost always write in that inverted triangle format, and still do sometime.
Facebook was so limiting in that respect, and steemit has set me free of those constraints.
That is the hope for the world!!
I hope we live to see it @melinda010100...thanks
An Irishman and a poet - isn't that like stating the obvious? I thought most of the Irish have the Gift of the Gab. Seriously? I liked your poem and I liked the frozen mermaid.
I cannot upvote, so I've given it to a comment of yours. Also added you to my feed (I'm a hungry lion who loves to eat poets)
:)
Hi @arthur.grafo, I appreciate your comment, but I don't understand, why can't you upvote?
I see an active upvote link.
No matter, perhaps you are farther east than I, and it is
already tomorrow there and you really can't upvote ha ha 🏃
I am happy you found some value in my work. I hope to see more of you around.
Right now though, I must go offline and get some sleep.
Quite a big time difference - you are going to bed and here it is time to get up...I live in S Africa.
I enjoy finding poets, but I also try to help new poets who make very basic mistakes...I'm not knowledgeable enough to help those who are a bit more accomplished. At least with you I can relax and just enjoy myself
