When I bought my new car I insisted on all the gadgets it could possibly have because, you know, gadgets!
It has the automatic breaking, Lane keeping assist, smart cruise control where it follows the car ahead at my preset distance, I can talk to it and tell it to do whatever (navigate, call, change climate, etc).
I do feel 100 times safer in this car and the have been a few instances where it has applied the brakes for me (and then I helped too 😉)
I, for one, am looking forward to the driverless technology for many reasons. The first being SUPER cool gadget!
The second being the promise of Independence for certain populations who are denied the freedom to roam independently like the visually or physically impaired.
Yay!
I am very happy to see the technology being used. For now it is a little too expensive for some, it adds about
7000$ to the price of a new car, but it will go down as sales will increase and that research will be paid off.
And yes, I have also thought about those impaired groups.
I would even look into the future and think about the revolution of the ownerless driverless cars. Just going out of your house and calling an UBER, it takes you to your destination and then it leaves to the next clients, could lead to the freeing up of parking lots and streets. Kiss taxes and gas or electricity bills goodbye, insurance and the sort.
I would still want to drive cars, but just having this option would leave me truly happy.
