Toyota Australia has revealed that the second generation of the GT86 is already on its way. A story that clears the doubts about whether the new Supra was going to take the small sports coupe from the range of the Japanese brand.
Earlier this year, a Japanese publication said that neither the Toyota GT86 nor the Subaru BRZ would have direct successors. The BRZ allegedly would be replaced by a more expensive version of the new Supra, while the GT86 would be eliminated. Yet neither one nor the other will disappear of the offer of both marks.
Not only does it stay, it will also evolve
Now, the chief of communication of Toyota Australia, Brodie Bott, has informed to the Australian magazine GoAuto that the GT86 not only will keep on existing, but it will have the second generation. “When this news spread, we had several internal meetings and I can say to them that this car [the second generation 86] comes from way. […] I do not know where from these informations come, but in this stage we are not looking descatalogarlo, it is a very important car for us and he will be the minor brother of the Supra.
After these statements, Bott added that the Toyota GT86 has already been released from the second generation internally and is just around the corner. Not much is known about it and it is unknown if it will be developed with the help of Subaru. According to some reports, the new GT86 could receive a four-cylinder, 2.4-liter engine that would probably maintain its atmospheric condition.
