To go out with the setting sun on an empty beach is to truly embrace your solitude.

Tomorrow is my second favourite public holiday, Australia Day. It falls on a Wednesday this year so is observed on the day itself. If it falls on Saturday or Sunday the public holiday happens on the Monday. Long weekend's are legit. I don't mind working two days, having a day off then working two again...It's a day off and it makes for a shorter week.

Australia Day

Australia Day is the country's national day and is observed on the 26th of January every year. It marks the landing of the First Fleet in 1788, at Sydney Cove, and is a day for all Australians no matter if they were born here like me, or if they arrived as immigrants.

Around the country celebrations, concerts, festivals and events are held right throughout the day, mostly simply for people to enjoy themselves and also to reflect on Australian history, celebrate our Australianness. The Government also hold community award events and new Australians attend citizenship ceremonies making their Australianness official. It's the country's largest civic event and it's a legit day off.

I usually hold a barbeque at my house for a handful of my friends and there's a strict policy; if you're not wearing something displaying the Australian flag, or other such appropriate attire, you are not getting in the front door. There is no exceptions. I have spares for those who forget, and I make them pull on something Australian-branded prior to coming in.

Breakfast

Alas, this year I'm not holding my regular, and much-anticipated, Australia Day barbeque and so I've had to come up with something legit to replace it...it's not difficult though and there was really only one choice of activity. What could possibly replace a legit barbeque at my house on Australia Day? Yep, you guessed it; the beach!

OK, back up a little...First there's an Australia Day sleep in; not a big one mind, just a sneaky little one through to about 10am 7am and then I'm making Australia Day breakfast; pancakes topped with blueberries, strawberries, cream and lashings of maple syrup. Afterwards I'll probably hang around at home, read a little, maybe watch a movie or TV series...I'd like to stay off the computer as much as possible as I spend far too long looking at screens. We'll see how that goes though.

Beach

I'm not a huge lover of sand which some of you may know, but I like the beach and so tolerate it...Albeit it with a lot of slapping and rinsing prior to getting into my vehicle. I actually spend quite a of of time at the beach all year round as our winters are temperate.

I enjoy strolling along next to the shore and wading through the water and, sometimes I even go for a swim. There's something relaxing about a swim in the ocean...unless one gets attacked by a shark and then things get a bit hectic. Don't worry though, our sharks generally only go after tourists and they never attack on Australia Day. Much.

The plan is a mid-afternoon beach walk and maybe an ice cream also. I'll probably take my book and read a bit and then later I'm having fish and chips on the beach whilst watching the sun go down. I know, that probably sounds boring to most but to me it's legit. A relaxing day doing relaxing things.

Design and create your ideal life, don't live it by default - Tomorrow isn't promised so be humble and kind

Wow... You've got it all figured out for tomorrow already. Permit me to say, albeit early, Happy Australian Day sir. I am delighted to know you hold it so true to your heart and this speaks a lot about the kind of person you are. If not this year, maybe next year, I will be at the Barbecue celebratory event hahahahaha. I've always loved the beach... I am thrilled with anything that brings me close to nature. I wish you a fun day tomorrow...

Thanks mate, it's sure to be a good day...I'll not be at work and that's always a good thing! ✅😜

Hahaha I know that feeling sir. I wish it was a longer weekend instead but like you said, you don't mind 2 days of work, one day off and then another 2 days. The weekend is also still there to rest, so it's all good.

Have a Happy Australia day tomorrow, midweek break! Hope the weather is favourable for walking, swimming and enjoying the beach, not too hot!

Sounds like a solid plan starting with breakfast then relaxing the day away, fish and chips a good end to the day perhaps a cold !BEER will be enjoyed at sundowner time.

@tipu curate

31 and clearing cloud apparently, although those weather boffins have probably go it wrong. It'll be a good day though and a beach walk and watching the sunset will be a nice way to end it. :)

Sounds perfect place to spend the day, have fun! Don't forget the sunscreen, hat and swimming shorts 😁

Hey @galenkp, here is a little bit of BEER from @joanstewart for you. Enjoy it!

Did you know that you can use BEER at dCity game to **buy dCity NFT cards** to rule the world.

That barbecue part got me and I can imagine how many would anticipate it this year. It's okay for you to decide on doing something different this year.

The beach is a good idea. I enjoy the waves and how it washes up by feet but I don't like the extra washing and cleaning part 😂😂🤣😂😂😂 due to the sticking sand but it's all about fun.

I think it's also a good time to stay off computer and I am guessing that's why you made this post early. You deserve the fun and day off.

It's a day filled with history so I wish you and all Australians, Happy Australia Day. Your influence is strong and I feel happy to have known such a person as you.

I don't like the extra washing and cleaning part due to the sticking sand but it's all about fun.

Sand gets everywhere...I'll probably be finding it in unspeakable places in a week's time!

It should be a good day and if I can stay off the computer then even better! Thanks for your well wishes, it's much appreciated and on behalf of the rest of the country, thank you. 😀

😂😂😂🤣🤣😂😂 on behalf of the rest of the country... I feel so honoured sir.

I hope you will rest and enjoy the day tomorrow too.

Hey! heard this "Australia Day" for the first time in my life. Feel glad to know that you will have your best time tomorrow. Also, thanks a ton for sharing this thing with us! 🙏😊

I think most countries have a national day, this is ours and it's legit.

First of all, those photos are incredibly stunning. You do have an eye for captivating sceneries. And a great ability to press the metaphorical shutter button of your phone!

A barbeque-esque gathering of Australian-branded Aussies celebrating their Australianness, and then, a walk to a very Australian beach... Legit might fall short. Wish you could do both this year and tell us all about it. But eh, that's life, maybe you can compensate for that missed barbeque some other day! Hereby I decree that every day shall be a good enough day for you to revel in the fact of being Australian, through a proper barbeque.

Australia Day breakfast; pancakes topped with blueberries, strawberries, cream, and lashings of maple syrup.

Doesn't get much better than that. Please do save me a seat!

Don't worry though, our sharks generally only go after tourists and they never attack on Australia Day. Much.

How very considerate of them! Guess I'd have to buy an Australian-branded wet suit, were I ever to visit Australia, so I can have a proper swim. That might trick them sharks into thinking I'm a local, right? Otherwise, I'm not getting near the water!

This sounds extremely legit. Have a nice holiday and please do stay away from the darn screens haha

I'm not sure if an Australian wet suit will save you from shark attack but I'm connected. So, if you ever come down here and want to go into the ocean let me know and I'll make a few calls, pull some strings and make sure they leave you alone.

That they move public holidays if they happen on a weekend is awesome. Not happening here lol. Also, depending in which state you live you have more or less public holidays. Better check before moving to Germany lol. Hope you overcame your Monday blues ;).

I like public holidays and Australia have many so, yeah, I think I'll stay here. 😃

Happy Australia Day Galen.

I'm sure it will be epic even without the BBQ - you have chosen pretty rad substitute activities.

Head scratches to Cleo, enjoy 🙂

Cleo and I started off with a movie and now...Well, snoozing seems like a good idea. It's really hot out, humid also, so a beach walk will have to wait a little. I'd melt out there right now.

Happy Australia Day to you too...Yes, you can have Australia Day also. I said so.

I wouldn't make it into your house then XD

Did the day pan out as you planned?

Don't worry, I have spare stuff. 😊

The day was ok, far too hot and humid though. Made it less good.

Happy Australia Day, @galenkp! You have such a wonderful day planned :)

Annabelle.

It was nice and relaxing, thank you. (Just what the doctor ordered.) ✅

That's good to hear! I've heard the weather is rather hot there at the moment, so I hope you are managing to stay cool...

Annabelle 😊

Hi GalenKP

These are beautiful photos.
I love beaches too, and often post stuff from there, but I must give you a Thumbs Up for these compositions. Nice color, nice focus, lovely.

And Happy Australia Day!
@shortsegments

Hey! Thanks for your nice comments. I'm not much if a photographer but give it a red hot go and I generally find something I like.
