RE: If not by state, then by church.

in #atheism8 years ago (edited)

I'm a writer-poet-philosopher-scientist and thus, naturally a leader type, not by force, but by wisdom.

In a natural, tribal setting, I would become a shaman sort of person, and here in the modern world, I would either be a politician or defensive lawyer, or even scientist or engineer, and I would very likely have a lot of power.

However, I would be a leader that would protect freedom, rather than the opposite. I would prevent other leaders from rising up and removing personal freedom from people.

However, my kind has failed regarding this, perhaps because I am not willing to go to such violent means to enforce my will upon others.

I only use my voice, or a pen.

I suppose that's why I'm here, and not in power, but alas, Earth society is too big to influence with words alone. You need propaganda, and to control the schools, so that you can brainwash the children.

Not exactly favorable, when your audience is brainwashed to obey certain authorities, but reject ideas like personal freedom.

I already live as if no law existed. I live in a land far from the USA style police state that has everyone in two political parties, all afraid of each other, and obedient to the church or state.

In my land, I can do as I please, because we're very spread out, and we don't have violent police. I could do whatever I wanted.

But I only do what I think is right. I would never violate my ethical code.

I have too much honor to ever do a thing that would disgrace my own pride and honor. I live by my rules, yes, but my rules are fair and decent, I think.

I only want the best for humanity, and for myself, and hurting a person, animal, plant, or fungi, without a just cause to it, is not something I can tolerate.

All things must be respected, including myself, so ones ethical code must be extremely strong, even if invented by that very person.

Sort:

This is what people forget. We talk about authority and laws and how they restrict our freedoms. How Politicians actively go out of their ways to restrict our freedoms whilst gaining more of theirs. It's hard to watch, but one must try to understand their mentality to respect the forces that are moving them. To oppose by force is wrong in my opinion because then morals and ethics become skewed and the lines between good and bad become blurred. Both parties start to look similar shades rather than opposites.

It's the system that's at fault in my opinion. It's the system that allows people to get away with x, y and z, if there was no way to do such a thing then people wouldn't do it. Like you said, it was only 70 years ago that Jews were executed in the streets like dogs in Nazi Germany and not many stood up for it. If you can get away with it, leaders do it.

I also love how you said "Christian" Nazis because it's widely disputed that Hitler was an Atheist, and you can't find Hitlers Christianty anywhere on Google, but, my wife has lived in Germany for eight years, talked to survivors of the war and it was very Christianity led.

Martin Luther, the one who formed Protestantism and Luthernism was German, and influenced German culture with his views.

He spoke of 'Locking Jews in their synagogues and burning them alive.'

Go check out Martin Luther's Wikipedia article. It's rather unsavory.
