[PHOTO] Abandoned Shit - Overgrowth - what abandoned places do YOU know in Europe?

in #aswcontest6 years ago (edited)

How do objects look like when nature takes over? Plants seem to be destined to take over whenever they can. Nature seems to always win. I have no idea how long this church in Scotland has been left alone by humans, but look: nature knows it can do whatever and is almost finished eating up the whole facade of this church!

This is one of those objects I can come back to in maybe 5 years and knowing how fast these climbers can grow I imagine the stones that are still visible now will have been swallowed whole.

Gorgeous.

A thousand times thanks to @customnature who makes me go back to my photo archives to find new treasures among them! I've posted pictures of this graveyard before, and decided to edit this picture so the amazing plant life would get all the deserved attention! :-) For those who don't know: @customnature has a weekly 'Abandoned Shit' contest, and this week's theme is 'Overgrowth'. Enter and win! Photography skills not required, just an eye for what is both awesome and abandoned.

I'm handing out 100% upvotes in the comments to those who have tips on abandoned objects in Europe! The Netherlands are 'the best' at cleaning up stuff, so that leaves me without a lot of subjects to photograph. But I'm open for some roadtripping through Europe and start taking new 'Abandoned Shit' pictures :-)

Whaaaaaaaaaat! I want to come with!

:)
well @jarvie is probably coming to Novi sad next month, and this is like 20-30km from Novi sad :)

My son would say go to the Atlantikwall..... [Relikte]

Oh, that's an interesting thing to explore! Maybe drive along the coast to find some remaining structures... Thank your son from me :D

One of the most impressing abandoned locations we've visited so far was the fortress of Kotor in Montenegro. The whole country is worth a trip!

Ah, thanks for the tip @patschwork! :D That is actually a very interesting thing I want to see now! Haha!

Excellent entry. For finding that kind of Stuff, avoid the richest central countries and try Portugal, Spain, Italy... Or even better, the former Soviet Republics.

Also... The further away you get from city centers, the more likely you are to find abandoned stuff.

I hope you find these tips useful.

Yes, those are good general tips @trincowski! I'm looking for more exact locations though because I can't just drive through all the countries to hope for abandoned stuff, unfortunately! :') Oh, Soviet countries are amazing indeed to explore :-) Thanks for commenting!

Great...! Wall of leaves...and actually it looks like a graveyard...because of the stones in front of the wall of leaves...

Thank you for sharing and have a nice day my friend...

Thank you for your lovely comment @mnallica! :D It is indeed a graveyard!

Thanks to @souldelas.

Nice photo of some abandoned shit! I wish I had a list of places for you to check out my Europe is still on my list! I’ve shot abandoned places all over the United States but it’s nothing compared to what Europe has to offer. Cheers!

Do you think so @idkpdx? From my point of view there's more to explore in the USA! Haha! I might come back to you if I ever come to the USA for tips :D

Sorry I don't know of any... Twin sister

Thanks for commenting twin brother!

No worries twin brother! :D

haha, great ...
indeed nature always wins!

It truly does! ;-)

It is always so cool when structures are being eaten by plants. You upcoming roadtrip should take you over a lot of small little roads in warm countries. so much to find there

damn..roadtripping is the bomb actually!

THE BOMB IT IS! For sure. Can't wait to do my next one :D
