11 Point Checklist for WordPress Bloggers

1. Have an About Page

An about page is very significant as it helps you to describe yourself and your website to the readers. Make sure to personalize it beautifully and creatively so that your reader subscribes to your page.

2. Set up a Contact Page

What will be the use of your blog page if readers will not be able to communicate with you? A contact page will provide a means of communication between you and your readers. It can also serve as a gateway for advertisers to discuss a deal with you.

3. Install Anti-Spam Plugin

There are many spammers out there spamming the hell out of unprotected blogs every single second. So, make sure to install an anti-spam plugin. Akismet, a famous anti-spam plugin, comes along with the WordPress installation. You can also use it.

4. Track Records

It is very important to track the statistics related to your blog from the inception. It can help you develop your content accordingly. Google Analytics is a free service provider that gives in-depth statistics of any page.

5. Select a Good Theme

A good theme is well designed, well coded, fast, and SEO optimized. Select the one with all the features. I personally believe that a unique design is always best. It provides a great user experience and can also be used for branding. Blog pages with WordPress default theme generally make the readers think that either the site is scrap or the blogger is not serious.

6. Write a Meta Description

A meta description is not very important in terms of SEO but it lets the reader know about your blog page and what it comprises of. Usually, a meta description should be around 160 characters long (including spaces). Meta description basically summarizes your page and is used by social bookmarking sites also.

7. Do a Keyword Research

Keywords are search terms on which you want your post to show up as a result. You should perform a keyword research as it will help you know the phrases related to your website and also know how many times users search for them every month.

8. Have an Engaging Headline

Your WordPress blog’s headline must be both informative and engaging to ensure that visitors click on your article to read it. It is the first thing which people see when they open your post. Therefore, it is very crucial to create a snappy, attention grabbing headline.

9. Proofread the Blog

It does not matter how good you are in the language or subject, you will certainly make at least one or two errors while writing it. Mistakes can be of any type from a simple grammatical error to a logical blunder.

Tip: Take a one or two days break before proofreading your blog post so that you don’t remember the details.

10. Add Images

There are several benefits of using images in a blog. They present your content in a visually appealing way. It is also necessary to optimize images as using high-quality images demand a lot of storage space which ultimately will make your site slower to load.

11. Do Internal Linking

Adding internal links to your blog can increase your post’s link equity which is a measure for search engines to determine the value of your post. It will also help the search engines and visitors to find all of your content faster and better understand your site’s structure. Make sure to add relevant links and not just for the sake of doing it.
