Hello, Steemians!
It's been almost 2 years since the original version of AskSteem was launched. At the time it provided a valuable tool for searching through the millions of posts on the STEEM blockchain. To date, AskSteem has served nearly a billion queries via our user-facing front end and our API used by applications like DTube, DLive, and Busy.org.
Unfortunately, due to the current cryptocurrency landscape, AskSteem can no longer sustain itself and on January 1st, 2019 will be discontinued.
Why are we doing this?
Historically, AskSteem has survived the cryptocurrency market's turbulence by keeping several months worth of operating costs in cash reserves (USD). This alleviated the concerns of other cryptocurrency market crashes. However, the long-term downwards trends of cryptocurrency prices over the past year have limited our ability to refill those reserves at the necessary rate. The most recent cryptocurrency crash was, in essence, the straw that broke the camel's back. For the first time since AskSteem's launch, it's cash reserves are not enough to continue running the service.
Supported Clients
In some cases, specific terms for continued support have been negotiated with some AskSteem enterprise customers. For these users, AskSteem (or an alternative service) will continue to work.
Concluding Thoughts
@hoxly, the company behind AskSteem, would like to thank each and every one of our users. We have accomplished some amazing feats over the years such as becoming the default STEEM search option on DuckDuckGo, adding user search, and being integrated with many of the top STEEM apps. We look forward to doing continued work on the STEEM ecosystem even if that work does not include AskSteem.
Oh, man, this is terrible and sad. AskSteem is an amazing asset in the Steem ecosystem and it is going to leave a huge gaping hole. We are all feeling the pinch of this broken market, some more than others and I am sorry that it ended this way for you.
On behalf of the Steem community and developers who relied on your services, thank you for everything and I hope to see you rise from the ashes when and if the market ever recovers.
Is it possible that AskSteem would ever be open sourced? Maybe someone else might be willing to spin up a server and host a search API as well, if only for their own projects.
Hi there,
Yes, there is a high likelihood that we'll open source the AskSteem source code. We're also working with some of our larger customers (like DTube) to build a completely new set of search utilities which will be open source from the start.
Thanks for the work, even though I'm new to all of this, I can see that a lot of effort has been put into this.
It seems d.tube search is not working currently, is there any time estimate for when the search function will be back?

Thank you so much for sharing this amazing post with us!
Have you heard about Partiko? It’s a really convenient mobile app for Steem! With Partiko, you can easily see what’s going on in the Steem community, make posts and comments (no beneficiary cut forever!), and always stayed connected with your followers via push notification!
Partiko also rewards you with Partiko Points (3000 Partiko Point bonus when you first use it!), and Partiko Points can be converted into Steem tokens. You can earn Partiko Points easily by making posts and comments using Partiko.
We also noticed that your Steem Power is low. We will be very happy to delegate 15 Steem Power to you once you have made a post using Partiko! With more Steem Power, you can make more posts and comments, and earn more rewards!
If that all sounds interesting, you can:
