After reading some negative comments on users who have not done much or given much back to the platform except for spinning crypto news articles and votetrading while upvoting themselves half the time, then complaining that Steem is not worth as much as it used to be. I really wonder how they go by in life, is this some sort of millennial thing where they're always the center of attention and can't get enough of the first time they landed on some money?
I don't know about you but I do find it pretty disgusting, there are so many accounts that Steem has made a big impact in their lives. They've also been lucky to be here early and figure out the ways to get to a lot of stake but giving back is something that seems ridiculous to them - on a platform that literally incentivizes you for rewarding others. Am I the only one that finds this behavior shocking?
Someone once told me that get your own finance in order before you start being altruistic with strangers on a blockchain. I sort of get that but at the same time I wish things didn't have to be that way. Not many of Steem this way but imagine the difference 1 vote could do to a user over a long time and a drastic change in price if it ever were to happen. This one vote, at the time worth $10, through inflation, curation and price changes could end up being a lot more in the future. I find it weird that some users take this for granted, wonder what they think when they've managed to turn their rewards into fiat or another coin and they look back at Steem. Do they think "I got my part for the efforts I put into the platform, I'm happy with it and can sleep at night" or do think "ha, I showed those suckers". Often times I think many of them think more of the latter considering they keep disappearing during bear markets, even though we've only had a few in Steem's charts.
Now there is no point to regret, I don't regret all the users I trusted that they deserve the rewards and will put them to good use in the future of the platform that made it all possible. Even if I could hardfork and take it all back somehow it doesn't matter anymore, Steem is much bigger than that, those that decided to desert it because of their lack of trust in this technology or depending on the ways they managed to cheat and lie their ways into a lot of stake that they then sold off at the first or second pump. They're not much better off, prices right now don't matter much, they're pennies compared to what is waiting beyond the horizon to infiltrate this space. They're reputation and experience from others will take a toll though, and unlike those that remained here they will find it hard to grow back the stake they decided to dump.
Just to be clear I'm not pointing out people that sold and left, more those that were really focused at quick profit through shady ways and then leave.
Anyway, with everything bad there's always something good in there as well. I keep finding new authors and users that I see using and enjoying the platform even though they have no stake nor are getting incentivized to do so. This will be the people that will be creating a ton of value for our blockchain because they're connecting with others and building platforms on top of our blockchain because they enjoy doing it, not because of the rewards that they may get.
I'm looking forward to find more people like that over the years and see to it that they get the attention and rewards they deserve from my own perspective, and I hope there will be many others doing something similar for the new users and accounts that deserve that chance after so many old ones have crapped all over theirs. Prices remaining low is good right now because it gives users that want to see this blockchain do what it is set out to do no matter what their ROI is or just focusing on using their influence on themselves, there are already examples of these, it seems the majority are new investors too so that's a good thing to see.
To get back to my question, almost forgot this was an AskSteem, will have to compensate with much shorter versions in the future.
AskSteem: if I were to help grow your influence on Steem through voting or delegation, what would you focus on doing with it in the future?
*hypothetical question... maybe.
I like your mindset @acidyo - reading you on this one means you're in here long term.
No, but am over shocked. It looks like it's normalcy here nowadays. Sad but seems like it. Those were the kind that were probably thinking short term. What happened to how chirpy we all were about making Steem big back then? Everyone WAS so positive we would wipe fake buk out of this planet's face and then came the first time Steem rose up to $2 and they powered down like there's no tomorrow and left. Some came back and funny, I got so many of those voting me back way when my wallet was still fatter than theirs. The moment they got passed my SP I noticed they let their true monsters - I mean colors out. Well, cest la vie. Am sorry to share this here but you're not the only one who've seen these kinds but I guess it's how absolute freedom works. Everything is allowed here. It did discourage many users though specially those who really put out great and no shit posts.
To answer your question at the bottom, I'd probably ask you to send it to my anonymous account. It's because I'd totally support the newbies. It was growth that made the Steem price in 2017 and early 2018 imho. If we could just bring many utubers here, we might as well explode.
Am spreading the word there very often, we're not known. I can't dare say join Steem and I'll help you because my SP is almost of no influence even though it's passed 10k. I have been spreading the word there - present progressive. We're a more attractive platform, imho but the trending page doesn't say so specially when they finally get in and discover bid bots. Sighs and a million more sighs.
Why to the anonymous account? It's better if there , that one has almost no activity (aside from delegation atm), meaning it'll only support. Why the newbie? We all know how discouraging it is to get no support when you're new here, specially if your wallet is null. It's discouraging to continue for those who posts great posts and see shit post trending, that's why. How are we going to keep growing population and value wise if that's the only very obvious thing that's here. I have to say I miss the good old days, back when we still have many sponsored contests that were newbie oriented. Am not going to write you a novel here but if you take me into consideration, consider what I wrote here done.
I think they think that it wasn't enough. It's never enough. No matter how much you earn. And then when it goes back up, they're gonna come back and try to get more.
I can kinda feel that a lot of times on here. You post some things that you put your heart into and you feel like it's not enough. Especially when the blockchain is rewarding others that just sort of churn your stomach.
But...the blockchain doesn't really owe us anything.
This is an opportunity though.
There are a lot of people that do that in the world. In the normal world some of their shit catches up to them sometimes. Sometimes they lead massive companies that make massive profit.
I have no fucking clue. I can't think of much to do with my personal account. I've got a few ideas for projects that I really outta start getting more work done on. With my personal account I do the same thing so many people on here do. I post things. I write things. I upvote people that I think deserve the rewards...and occasionally I give back to myself a bit with that. I went a long time without self voting, but I've come to the conclusion that many people are just out for themselves, so you do have to do a bit for yourself.
That doesn't mean that you have to wait until you're well off to give back though. But you might wanna limit what you do give back at least a bit, so you can take care of yourself. But, statistically, many of those that give the largest percentage are those that have the least. The situation of millionaires doing amazing things giving away huge sums of money is an exception. Even when they do, it's often just a small percentage, while there are people going hungry that often share half of what little they have.
So I'd just keep supporting friends posting good content, as well as strangers.
I'd like to eventually do a curation project for geek content...but I have other project ideas that I should start on first. Some of those would be helped with delegations or growing their accounts, once they're active, but people will decide that for themselves.
I think I would continue to do what I've been doing from day 1 Acid. Support some proven authors, discover some new...keep creating accounts for giveaways...engage with others as much as I can and keep investing in steem either by exchanging some other cryptos or fiat. The more influence (SP) someone has, the more can help others grow as well :)
Tbh I wish I had more time to spend around and get involved in various projects but unfortunately i usually must complete 10 - 12 hour shifts on my day job...which sucks.
And since I've been around for 15 months only...what did you mean by that?
Shady ways such as?
Over the course of Steem's existance and rule changes to the blockchain there has been a lot more backroom door deals such as "vote my account and I'll send you the post rewards through an exchange". Basically many attempting to max out and take as much value off of the platform from speculative money and investors being the ones getting rekt if they didn't hold for long term or sell in time. Might be a reason why many don't like Steem and haven't looked back at what's going on here. Anyway, nowadays most ways to maximize your ROI are out there in the open, we're starting to hit max "shady money being generated" but there will always be some that are invested and at the same time constantly taking a bite from the rewardpool which ends up on exchanges. Steem still has a long runway though and over the cycles it will filter itself out, there's always a price for people who aren't planning on being long term. If there is interest, they will find ways to get even the biggest steem fans to sell. :P
Anyway, due to not a lot of natural curation happening anymore I think this means that there's a lot less "easy" steem to be earned like there's been in the past. I imagine if the next bull run for BTC goes beyond past ATH's and Steem is still going strong we will see numbers in our ATH we haven't thought be possible so soon. Oh well, time will tell. This comment got sidetracked quite a lot already. :P
Sad...really, if not pathetic
I understand that everyone has a selling point, I also know that nearly everyone is struggling for attention. Even proven authors that have major support...but c'mon..."vote me and i'll send you the rewards?" disgusting....at least.
The most important thing isn't to see steem climbing at 10$ or 15$...the most important thing at least imo is that a "floor" must be created (let's say at 3$) and steem never go below that again...At least for those who are 100% powered up. I mean would people be happy if steem reaches 15$ for a week and then dips down to 1 $ again? Trade wise it would be super awesome of course....
Stable growth would be so much better for the ecosystem and businesses being built on top.
That's why I would't mind watch steem sitting at .40$ even for the whole year. I see it as great opportunity for accumulation, before we take off...Sounds crazy?
Some might laugh at this...I guess they are the ones that want financial success...and they want it now
Many of those people might be fucked if their local tax authority doesn't give a fuck that they had some bullshit deal like that and considers it all income.
Well said mate, well said! Beautifully written and i agree with your sentiment.
Personally i would do what im already doing, which is supporting and leading the @ecotrain community.. more delegation would mean I can launch some great initiatives to help promote important causes .. ive learned well after 2 years that there’s nothing like a good upvote to incentify people and improve
Engagement..
With ocdb you have given me a tool I needed to help my account grow! Thank you for that! I love engaging and passing along a little Steem each week through the Shadow Photo Contest Round 62- Geometric Shadows. Because of OCD I am at a place where I will be increasing the prizes and spreading a bit more Steem around, so thanks for that!
I am a witness to your good doings Melinda... you have such good deeds and the number of growing contestants and followers can be seen via your account...and a lot have joined your challenge because it is only not fun to do, but there are lots of interactions and comments going on each week... through your contest, I met a lot of new Steemians. MANY THANKS TO YOU!
Thanks so much for your kind words @mers. I appreciate that you took the time to write that and I am so glad that you have found new friends in the 'shadows'! It is a fun place to be and I enjoy seeing all the creativity!
You´re welcome.
I have been here for what I consider a while and have seen a lot of what you mention, I don't even have plans to sell my Steem in the next 10 years, my goal is to reach a level where I can sustain myself with Steem and since the number for that to happen is not too crazy, I think it is probable.
I've invited and continue to invite people into the platform that I believe can thrive in here, a lot leave but a few have stayed :-)
In the early days I used to upvote myself in the comments to bring myself to the top but realised that was being wasteful. Now I instead support a few curation trails with my votes and I'd like to believe that helps and motivates people to stay...
The last time I checked on Steem world I think my selfvote percentage was below 6% and I was voting over 350 different accounts each week :-)
I wish I could give more, cuz I like giving more than I like receiving and thats why I love Steem :-)
I have the same long term plans! I haven’t sold any Steem but I guess I’m in a different financial position than others that need to. Love the name BTW, final fantasy FTW

Well I understand that many people may have different opinions, but I for one have been helped by @fulltimegeek. Starting way back with a delegation from the Stewards of Gondor to even now getting a bump from some of his bots. To me that selfless and giving attitude is and has been an example I try to modal albeit in a smaller scale. I currently have had just north of 20% of my SP delegated to a few smaller accounts that produce good content and give genuine comments. Could I get a higher ROI by delegating a different way, most likely, but this works for me. I get that we cant help everyone, but we can all help someone :)
Hello,
it depends on the ideals you have, if they fit together with my own I would help to spread your ideas or initiatives you make, and as I understand after reading your post, they do.
Have a wonderful day

First comment... I'm already doing it!
Funding and blowing up @theplayersclub which I've been very open to growing the smallest steemians.
Grew the Cannabis community and also helping grow @cannabis-news which is providing some amazing work. A Federal challenged to Cannabis prohibition? Yes please let me help him!
So yeah I'm down to grow back. Still haven't taken anything out for myself just put it into making more friends bigger!
And even encouraged my enemies to get bigger!
Thanks man here is a vote! Not much but it's love!
Pay it forward! Show love and help the little people...
Oh and yeah @powpow420 is also another undervalued author...

Hahaha... I am following you on Smoke.io man! Get it on!
Well you've been growing my account for a while now so i'm going to say that I'd carry on with what I've been doing!
Heard similar to that also. Probably why I'm shit broke but feel rich here :)
Haha ❤🦋🙏🗻 i am with Asher on this one! Nice take on the situation bruhv. I am still thinking about how i can increase my offerings to earn enough Steem to get myself to the next Steem Fest! What should i offer though??! LOL i am such a Plain Jane!
Right it's rewarding to grow others!

Buy low, sell high....
Isn't that how it works? Right now is the time to invest in STEEM. If you can't invest in it with your dollars, invest with your time. Create incredible content that grows your account, then, when STEEM is two or three times what it is now, or $10 again, you'll have a nice bank account.
That's what I'm working on. I'd keep doing what I'm doing, through my personal account and @gardengnomepubs where I am seeking to build a community of writers focused on the #speculativefiction genre.
On both of these accounts, I promote Steemit, Steem, and provide awesome content. My personal account provides expert analysis on issues Steemians should be interested in, and I share fiction, poetry, and other content related to my personal interests. I am also working on other initiatives that will help other Steemians earn more from their posts (I'd revel what that is but I don't want to give it away just yet).
So, what I'm saying is, if you did support what I'm doing, I'd keep doing what I'm doing: Put 100% of myself into producing incredible content.
I suspect this is found to be a very busy comments section :0D
I was trying to not make it to be one of those with my unrelated wall of text in it, but I suspect people will just read title and go nuts on selfpromo. :P
Hehe, I will be almost disappointed if they don't!
Uh-Oh...did I just mess up???
Pretty early #steem is pure about giving.
It is very easy to point fingers.
I find my joy in curating and do what is right everyday.
I do not even worry about what I can get back.
It will come at due time.
What is important for me now is contributing and showing new steemians to do the same.
Have a stake in the cake and continue to share.
I keep buying and continue to buy.
Keep on postin

You're not the only one. It's one of the first things I noticed here on steem 20 months ago when I joined, and I have noticed less of this behaviour recently on my timeline. Whether that's because I've unfollowed those people I noticed gaming the system back then, or that they've left because of the price drop, I'm not too sure. I'd like to think it's the latter, and that I see more genuine rewarding of people creating value from early adopters, simply because the takers have taken and pissed off with what they've taken. Ha ha, as you can tell by the way I express myself it is something that frustrated me hugely in the first year I was on steem. I think that people investing now are generally more progressive in their ethos and ethics. I see many people I know who have proven that they have integrity buying themselves up to dolphin status at the moment. This can only be a good thing imo.
They might be right. But the first thing I did when I saw that other people were behaving in selfish, self serving ways was to remove myself from viewing it and go and help someone who really needed it. I write about that on the post that I wrote for steem anniversary. Back in the market peak, even a group of minnows could help someone in Venezuela live in less poverty. I feel privileged to have done that. Not because it made me feel better about myself, but because I'd made a connection with this person over a mutual hobby, but also because it felt like my only option to balance the scales against the self serving behaviour I'd previously observed.
Ha ha, I've gone on a rant. I tend to do that sometimes. You asked a question.
Just the same as I did back then and still do now. Find people to interact with (support) based on mutual interest (like the content they write, or mutual hobbies etc), but also people like the friend from Venezuela who will see real impact from that support. I help support someone now nearly every day who uses steem to help pay for life saving medication. I would also use any influence for promoting steem in various ways, which is something I do a lot more of these days.
The thing about steem for an average minnow, is that it's a hustle. I've learned that the last 8 months. And that hustle can drive people to abandon principles one after another. So my behaviour on steem isn't the best for getting maximum rewards, but it brings me quality of life and ease of mind. It makes me happy and I build meaningful relationships.
That's something all those takers will never have. However, they might be reading this on a yacht somewhere laughing their heads off at me 🤣😂
I'm one of those legless slimy slugs that the only real fiat I have invested was when I bought some steemmonster cards and they gave me some steem in return. I started with the free delegated steem. I came to steem not for the money, and I still have no clue how to take the money out and do not care about that right now, in 5 to 10 years maybe, but because my wife said there were friendly social people and a ton of stuff to read and look at. She was right. I don't see my methods changing to much over the course of the next 5 years. Post sometimes, read and comment, vote, donate and pay for some content, and show some support to the tags I like to visit with the items mentioned above. I would love to see the price of steem go up so I could give at least two cent plus votes on more content and more comments. Heck to be honest being able to give out 25 votes on different post/blogs at 10 cents would be great, I will get there again one day, I remember being able to give out a few 17 cent votes at 100% that felt good. So hypothetically, it would just mean bigger votes for as many accounts/post as I can manually handle in a week which on average is about 170 at 100% and or 50% value.
Sharing is what it should be all about here, in whatever way we feel able. Your up-voting of others may mostly only bring a smile to their face right now...but, 'any' smile has value far beyond it's surface. You seem to be on the right path in that respect.
*hypothetical answer... maybe.
...making it honest...'cos no one else around these parts seems to to want to take on the hard questions...
Okay @lucylin ... a short and sweet response as always; you got my %50 thumbs up for that one :>)
Methinks this crusader is putting away his sword, on that front...
Sometimes...it's time for the 'crusader' to turn his back, walk away and return home; living to fight another day, if 'need' be...IMO
....you misunderstand....my strategy has changed, I'm still fighting this fuckin' war...lol
I don't have much else to do...doors are not my friends...
Hmm, yeah, I can see what you mean and relate to how you are feeling with regards to those users who are in this for short-term gains, for sure. But I guess the upside is that we get to see and appreciate those others that are at the other side of the spectrum? :D Haha, like, because we notice those who take-take-take, their behaviours also highlight those that gives back to the system :)
Always silver lining, somewhere! XD;
Um, I think if I was a bit bigger (spider)fish in the ocean, I'd probably just continue to do what I'm doing now. I'm super passionate about manual curation :) and I've curated a lot of meaningful contents in the past year through curie and c-squared/c-cubed, ... which in turn actually made me feel richer because i get to know so many talents and so many stories off Steemit, which had made me gained so many new friends :D :D :D
And I guess I'll continue to give back by featuring others through my blog and through my artist's highlights posted by the c-squared account, ... recently i've managed to encourage a talent that has been neglected for a long time to return and be more engaged by giving them a feature on my blog :D Before the feature, they were earning cents for every post, with not a single post breaking $1 but now they are in the radar of some legitimate curation groups and I'm happy to see them energized at Steemit :D
I also delegate steem powers to new comers, but since I'm not a whale (not even a dolphin), I selected these delegations carefully, but so far, I am happy to have been able to help @arrr, @sadheaven, @platyfolio and @aerozopher :) And I'm always looking to find new joiners to help out ! I think if we can identify the 'right' kind of people to nurture, in the long run, they will also grow to be some one that will also give back to the system, creating an endless feedback loop where every one is circling around to help newer people as they grow.... There is such energy and fulfillment in thinking that each of us are capable of creating ripples on the ocean :D
And finally, I've been sponsoring contests by giving out prizes from my own funds, and yesterday I did a charity post that is designed to generate funds 100% for others in need, but also to create notice on these other accounts through my blog, hopefully passing some of my followers onto them in the process :)
But, really, all in all, what I'm saying is that I have felt really thankful that even bigger accounts have been helping me grow, so in return I can help others (even) smaller Steemians :)
So, thanks @acidyo~ It's been eye opening and really a good chance to reflect for me... I am the type of person that think better if I type things out so to take stock and look back at my Steemit experience, this has been an invigorating moment for me :D
My take away from all of this, in summary: I will continue to do as much as I can because at the end of the day, I have felt so fortunate and so enriched through my experience on this platform :)
Keep on rocking, @acidyo ! :D :D :D
I would focus on doing with it what this blockchain is supposed to be all about, which is incentivizing proof-of-brain behavior by curating and engaging with content creators. If you are asking me if I would power down and leave, no, I wouldn't, at least I wouldn't leave... Maybe in the very distant future 10-20 years, I would start taking 50% of the profit out instead of powering it up, this profit would allow me to live off of STEEM. But imho this is not a bad thing, yes it increases the sell pressure and the price more easily drops, but at least it gives an opportunity for new accounts and new adopters to get in, it decentralized the SP through all the accounts. And I would always keep a % of the SP to increase my account, because I think that having stake in this blockchain is very very important, we might very well be getting SP that will give us and our future children and grandchildren income!
Also, I'm changing degree to computer science this year, and I want to aim at building this decentralized ecosystem that we are starting with cryptos, so, having my own SP would be very profitable in the future, ...
PS: The amount of content in these comments is overwhelming!
I don't think you'll regret that degree change decision somehow.

Yeah, I don't think I'm going to regret either... I was studying Veterinary medicine, and I enjoyed it but I didn't love it, I saw no future for me, I wasn't even that happy, but with computer science, coding, programming, I feel that so many new doors and paths open for me, I feel like I'm doing more to help further our society and our species...
Spend months convince people why they should join, onboard them and them guide them to find those few mini upvotes every day.
Teach them to use dtube, Steemhunt, and hopefully more to come.
Basically, that would mean roll out a 50Mbps connection with few routers in an area of unbanked who have only data when they have spare funds. Barely ever.
Then get them on this platform which requires no modern device, no wallet, etc...
Lastly, while always striving to improve my own craft, continue to fight for an inclusive internet. An Internet also for those without English literature college degree.
The internet, Steem and blockchain, should empower.
If I had BIG stake, I would run community cleanup and education projects with those same people. Similar to Bounties network.
But take it to the unbanked, not just talk about them.
I live amongst them. I don’t think all about them, I talk to them.
Tl;DR: nothing which requires dele or stake I would do. Just further propagation of the power of the internet and take it to those who dont yet know it.
I'll admit it is somewhat discouraging being a new user having almost no influence, but still have respect for the platform and understand that it's just the nature of the beast. i'm trying to be more consistent with posting and add as much value as I can through not only posts but comments as well.
If I were to gain influence on the platform through the help of yourself or others, I would continue to promote platforms such as #PAL and #schoolofminnows - and hopefully enable them to gain more users than they already have. It seems that based on some of the comments you made on your post maybe you don't like things that allow auto upvoting, but consider this. As a new user, if I make a post, I will more than likely get less than five upvotes. If not for platforms such as the ones I mentioned it's almost as if it isn't worth my time to even use steemit! Not even considering the crypto incentive, making a post that barely anyone reads is very discouraging. I believe for a new user sometimes we need the help of platforms like this to gain some momentum.
A passion of mine is education. I am not a formal educator in the sense of going to college to become a teacher, but I have taught in various settings throughout my life - as a mentor, a father, etc.
If the Steem community rallied around me to help me to grow my account, then I would want to give back through courses. I have already created a FREE course called Steem Markdown on the Teachable platform. My passion is the educating side of things. I stink at marketing. With a greater reach into the Steem community, I hope I would be able to help people who need some that little extra boost when they first join our blockchain.
I think I am harder working than average, but the bar is pretty low in my opinion. I would honestly tell the would be delegator give it to someome more deserving so it goes to better use. Kinda like when celebrities choose their charities.
Edit: I am feeding minnows at the moment and even found someone with RC scarcity to delegate to from my efforts.
I'm starting to get more of my connections involved in Steemit. Have never powered down. Am posting more and more too. I uphold the integrity of the blockchain as you can see with my latest post. I like what you do Acidyo
Great post. I just started a project @steempatron where I am trying to recruit and support content creators with large followings from traditional platforms. People with hundreds of thousands of followers on YouTube for instance represent a huge funnel for potential Steem users. I'm not sure that is adequately recognized thus far. Get them on the platform and keeping them happy to crosspost here will pay dividends in the future!

To be honest, I have wanted to build a chain of artisans (daily regular users) that are vast in the knowledge of blockchain and the cryptocurrency space to post daily to our blockchain on various fields such as Art, Music, Poetry, Fashion and co which will in turn boost the use-case of Steem blockchain. Here is the account I created @theartisangroup spearheaded by myself.
Another thing have realized is that with a lot of influence and delegation you can impact others and grow/groom them up to be like you, if not like you but something better than you. I will grow more accounts and influence our community beyond the blockchain base. Basically, on other social media platforms. Give me a chance to show my worth, I won't disappoint you.
It's always gone be some who complains all the time and doesn't mater that situation. Decide to join steem not for easy money, but been looking for the best alternative to our social media group monopoly and never thought that will find such a strong community. Pleasure to be part of it.
I would put my full 100 percent focus on doing daily live streams here on Steemit of myself in the nude flexing and showing my flaccid wiener slapping inanimate objects in the face. Should I run out of objects then I'll start doing donation requests where I electrocute my own nipples via jumper cables and a car battery.
I feel that this would definitely help Steemit grow further, and by doing so I would improve every single users day by at least 13.7 percent upon viewing my majesty. The only people who wouldn't gain from this are sewer dwelling cavemen too busy looking at candlesticks and screaming out their proclamations of love for John McCafee.
Wow, I was about to abandon this comment thread just because it was so long. I'm glad I did this one last scroll.

I think what we are all missing here is that Steemit is awfully young and people who want to take advantage of it will definitely do so now because they see it as an opportunity.
After spending more than five years on Reddit (my job also revolves around it) I always thought what would happen if you monetize content in a way Steemit did, even before the platform went live, and I guess I got my answer. We had more people coming in for the opportunity to make an easy buck than the actual contributors who just wanted to support the platform. I am not a regular here but whenever I have something to write about, this is the first place I come to.
I can proudly say that I did my part in spreading awareness about the platform as well. On the top scoring links list on Reddit, that came from Steemit I hold 3 out of 10 top places and the most upvoted article came from my account. Since I'm in the marketing business I encouraged a lot of clients to open an account here and had some of my content published on their blogs as well.
I personally love this place but I don't have enough time to invest in it. I bet that is the case with most people. Steemit needs time to grow and become relevant. Another bull run like 2017 and you will have people coming here from all corners of the internet. The whole crypto space is in a state of depression and that reflected things here as well.
The bottom line is - people don't have enough incentive to stay here. As you said, the content got boring and repetitive, people expected too much from Steemit and the reality is that there are a lot of alternatives out there. Only a handful of people actually understand how big Steemit can be in the future and most of them don't respect the privilege to be a part of the "blockchain pioneers".
Lastly, to answer your question - I would probably continue doing the same but a lot more frequently.
Really great topic acidyo, and I saw already great comments so far. This kind of discussions really brings to the table a lot to think about in terms of the old vs new vision of the steemit platform from the people who already left and also the ones that still keep doing it until now.
I think we should praise the more experienced people that are here but also the new ones that join in without the short term mentality of growing quick and fast with the only interest of gathering the resources and steems. I really enjoy seeing the people that truly are here for the ride and enjoy the experience and to learn even more. The reputation or steems that you can earn is just a bonus and a reminder to keep you doing what you love. In the end, the main goal shouldn't be the amount of resources you can collect for yourself, but multiplying that across all the people that you like and helped you reach your dream. With that thought, everyone wins and produce even more great content and keep being motivated with even more earnings.
I agree when you mentioned there are a lot of great people that keep posting day after day. Sometimes they don't even have the upvotes or the boost they deserve and even with that, they keep coming and doing it, because they truly love it.
I wanted to ask what are the best ways to improve the help we currently give. I try to upvote the content I really like, but also new people that join the community on the introduce yourself or that keep doing it day after day. But it always seems short... so if you have any good pieces of advice on how to push that further let me know. Maybe who knows have people, groups, websites on a list of a next post so we can also spread some support and more upvotes across the steemit community.
Hey acidyo!
My pitch for your support:
I have posted original work every day for the past 500+ days.
I have had a few curies, but never the long term support of whales.
I run a community of punsters, and am an active member of a community I co-founded, @freewritehouse.
I seek IRL interactions with steemians and have hosted meetups, including one for #socalsteemit.
I am a writer with @steemfiction, which is putting the name of steem on books for popular consumption.
I choose to be a part of steemit for reasons that cannot be because of the money, as is evidenced by the fact that I've never made any sort of reasonable income here. The vast majority of my steem holdings were purchased by fiat.
I've come to the end of what fiat I can currently justify putting into steem, and so I have begun delegating to worthy recipients, like @d00k13, in an effort to not only help them reach their goals, but also to get to a point where I can justify putting more time and effort into building a career here.
I'd like to produce film and tv for this platform that will reap rewards sufficient to cover the costs of production.
I'm also reaching the limits of prize support for Punday Monday.
With your support, I can move closer to making Steem a place for my original video content to be financially viable
Right now steem is an auxiliary to my acting, writing, and producing career. You could help take us all to the next level.

Correction. During the hf20 rc debacle, I could not post. But that was the only reason I didn't.

Also PS, if you're interested in my bona fides as an actor and producer, you can find some of them in the chain, or you can visit my website, www.brendanweinhold.com

That is good question sir @acidyo. I will try to be direct as much as possible. I was here 3 months after the birth of steem and since then I started getting people in the community build community which I believe triggered the much bigger community in the philippines. If given a chance to gain support, I can invest my time bringing huge crowd in the steem community.

Am a curator @acidyo, I like to support more people with my upvotes. Right now my vote value doesn't worth much, so I don't bother upvoting my post, rather I use it to support as many more authors as I can.
So If I get your support, I sure will use it to support more authors, especially those author's, that are here for the long haul, because I am here for the long haul. This is why I have never powered down my steem power and I don't hope to do it anytime soon.
I think that anyone who keeps their stake for the long haul is helping improve the value of steem.
Thank you @acidyo.
A little 'give back' in an altruistic manner, even as an impoverished soul yourself, may result in greater reward than ever imagined...in my opinion.
I too, share much of your sentiment @acidyo ... and in answer to your question:
Of course I would find a way to help support what I deem 'worthy' recipients whether they be individuals or groups, to 'share' in whatever financial rewards that I might gain here on the block-chain (particularly Steemit) Regardless where they may reside, race, color or religion...
Though in my daily existence, I 'try' to remain as unbiased and attuned to the suffering of others on this planet...their misfortunes (especially the innocents) through no fault of their own, I'm aware of my own tendency at times to be perhaps a bit too critical.
Anyway...I just 'like' helping 'others' if it is within my ability to do so.
Many Regards,
Ciao
I would not be angry at them but just have pity for them cause they must be lonely out there - I am glad I was asked to come here and meet all kinds of new people and it is great to have genuine comments on your blog - in return I also like to give comments to others in a positive way :)
Just my two cents here, and probably a little tangential.
Because every action taken on the blockchain incurs some sort of cost, this takes away incentive to just be social.
I noticed that posting costs the most RC mana, just upvoting costs the least RC mana. I think there should be one or some level of free interaction. like a dm or private message or something. I think it is funny that we all use discord to talk with each other about our amazing social media platform.
At the moment I am not smart enough to criticize anything about how steem works under the hood.
To answer the actual question you asked though:
If you were to upvote my content I would use it to buy eggs and bread. I would eat those eggs and bread while I make more content. Lol. For real though, I do not think it asking too much to get minimum wage or more from contributing value to the world.
I read through 3/4 of your article, and was going to leave a comment. Then I realized that s*it don't fly on steem. I am paying money (kinda) to share my opinion about your opinion, on this page, forever. So I better bring some real thought to the table. Read the whole post all the way through, and reread and edit your response.
Its all about being your own authentic self. If you put yourself out there and share your knowledge and experience in a valid and beautiful way, you should be rewarded with an income that provides the bare bones basics. There is a dude (@socky) who gives out free car repair advice and makes $2.50 a post. I would hope actual valuable information like car repair and diagnostics would be worth alot more than that. That car guy deserves beer and pizza for a post that gets a human jetting down the highway at 75 mph.
To tie it all together though, its just car-ma. (ha!) upvote, promote, comment, and like who you believe in without being all gross selfish about it.
Peace and hair grease dudes and lady dudes!
Even before Steem, I have been active in promoting education as the best economic equalizer through my organization back in college. I want to continue reaching out to those children in far-flung barangays of Cebu, Philippines. I want to use my Steem earnings to expand Project LIBRO to more schools without libraries and educational support.
As for my background, I came from a poor family and I grew up with just bare necessities. I was able to finish my studies because of my scholarship. Because of kind-hearted individuals, I have now a stable job and I was able to support my siblings with their studies. I am one of those who were able to help their families because someone helped them finish their studies.
I also want to continue promoting Steem here in Cebu. It's just sad that because of the current value of Steem, only a few have remained. Maybe because we had a wrong approach in terms of promotion before. I am also saddened that the supposed leaders of the community are now dormant. I want to continue organizing Steem Summit which has been successful in showcasing the talents here in Cebu and bringing Steem to the real world.
With my meager influence right now, it's really difficult to do those things. That's why I continue to create more content and increase my SP. I haven't powered down ever since I joined and I will continue powering up with the earnings of my posts.
I remained faithful in Steem even if almost all of my friends are now gone.
It takes all kinds to make this world go round
The kind you are upset with will never feel shame or remorse
No matter what you say, or what you do, they will always play victim and the blame game, because it is never their fault. There's always someone or something that justified their actions.
I like that a lot :)
So what would I do with a decent amount of influence?
I suppose what I am doing now on a larger scale. Engage and it is nice to give an upvote and nice upvote with that. I am trying to hit Dolphin hood, then I really want to run a contest because those really kept me in the game initially.
With engagement I look out for some who are new, some who have been around but earn very low, and of course those who also do consistently put out good work and who already have following. And all done manually. I have not to date used a curation trail. Though I must say, it does get overwhelming sometimes when Real Life kicks in. But I have managed so far. :)
I have been an active member on Steemit even during the bear markets. I am playing Steem Monsters and Drug Wars. Steem is evolving as a great platform day by day.
@partiko has made life easy here. Yet another successful project on Steem. I hope to see many more soon.
If I were to be even a minnow(500+ SP) I would do curation because that's what helps.
My introduction post made $23 which motivated me for ever. Definitely many users will stay if they believe genuine posts make good money.
I invited couple of my colleagues here at steemit. They come from various interests like health freaks, artistic, philosophers, gamers etc. I am sure they will add more value to it. I will continue to bring in new Talents which are stuck with Insta and FB right now.

Hi @acidyo! I'm glad as always that you raise interesting topics for discussion, true post!
I came to the blockchain in January 2019, literally 72 days ago. I will tell you a little about my impressions and then I will try to answer your question. To begin with, on my own, I probably would not have known about Steemit, since I am always focused on my work with music and love for it. A friend @Arrr of mine who came to visit me, told me, Pavel, you should try Steemit, this is a good opportunity to prove yourself and he also told me that I can earn money on the blockchain. Unfortunately, I don’t have so much free time to spend it on other things besides music, but if I have free time I try to use it with benefit, spend time with family and friends, do sports, travel, use science and history I develop myself as a person in society. I adhere to some rules in life and one of them is to never look back, always set goals for myself and go towards these goals. When I came to the blockchain, I didn’t quite understand how everything works. I have never been on the blockchain and Internet sites where people earn cryptocurrency, for me it was not clear, but I decided to figure it out, I was looking for articles in which I found a lot of useful information about life on the blockchain and about the principles of work. I found this interesting and I try to learn something new about it every day. My first post didn’t attract much attention, which I’m really happy about, since I’m not used to expressing myself with words, I’m used to showing myself in action. I was very pleased that I had the opportunity to find new listeners, as well I am very glad that I found many talented artists and musicians from around the globe who I share with experience, advise and constantly discuss something, friendship has for me great value is more than money and everything else.
I became mutely sad when I began to notice talented artists who are in the shadows, nobody just notices them, although they create original and noteworthy content, it was at this point that I had a goal to help them. I was also helped to become more visible on Steemit. In the beginning, I lacked resources so that I could vote for what I liked, as resources were exhausted very quickly, but then, I met @veryspider, and we became friends, because we have a lot in common, she did a lot of good and useful to Steemit, it always helps everyone and explains if I have questions. Once I woke up and saw that I had 100 voting powers, and what do you think? Yes, this @veryspider made a delegation for me and my friend, so that we could develop faster and give more votes for good artists. I am very grateful to her for her sincerity and the warmth that she radiates, for the kindness and care for new users.
Now it's time to answer your question. If I was helped to expand my account, I would help other people to become more visible, I am always in search of original and exclusive content. If you look at the great number of people on Steem and how many posts you publish every day, it’s like looking for treasure or getting a pearl from the ocean floor, clearing it of algae and then we’ll have not just a stone in our hands, we’ll have sparkling shimmering in the sun, beautiful pearls that will sparkle and delight others.
The great part of this journey is that we live and learn which allows us to adjust accordingly. I have stopped following accounts that were once active and helpful only to powerdown on the back end and stop engaging once achieving a stream of support. My thought is how I can take a portion of my growth and deploy to others trying to get started. I am lucky enough to not rely on my Steem for income but other do and it would be a great way to attract more if they can make it.

I stopped bothering about those people a long time ago, focusing on helping to grow a new generation with a different mindset - hoping that one day, their influence would be big enough to actually change how things worked around here.
I realize this will take time - years probably, but I'm happy to see that the shift is already taking place. More and more people are working towards the same goal. At least, that's what I see from where I'm standing.
As for the hypothetical question: I wouldn't change my ways. Ever since HF20, this platform is doomed if no action is taken. Newcomers are limited in such ways that there's absolutely no incentive for them to stay. Athough I applaud initiatives like the 10k minnow project, I thought long and hard, and then decided to limit my contribution to that; There are plenty of people supporting it. But without people giving newcomers the benefit of the doubt and delegating some of their SP to them to allow them to get around and decide for themselves whether they think this platform is worth staying or not, there will at one point be no more redfish to push towards minnowhood. It's always a gamble deciding to delegate to newcomers based on their first couple of posts - some stay, some don't, but I'm willing to take that risk if it means the this platform might have a future.
Thats a good question Acid i dont think you will get many honest answers to.. lol
You will probably have very long comments explaining various things that can be done that cater towards your personality and the perception commenters have about your values, but you cant really know if any of that is true or if it will come to pass if you give someone money.
If i were you, what i would do is find someone that does a lot for the platform and support their efforts or pick a great content creator, someone that can objectively compete with anything in the mainstream and support them.
Important to point out is that i wouldnt focus on "community leaders" because they already benefit greatly from the reputation, group support and their focus is for most part inwards instead of outwards.
I also wouldnt ask "What would you do?".. Id look at what they have done already.
I dont think you want someone to change their behavior just because you gave them a delegation or votes and i dont think you would want to support a person that would change who they are just to please you...
Just a few thoughts. :)
Oh, and to answer what i would do...
lol. ;)
I would focus on bringing more people in! It would be the perfect way to do so because you can show examples of how you’re getting supported. I already have an on-boarding project I’m doing by myself with no help. I get some upvotes from Steempress and I’m just letting it stack up so I can use that Steem to pay for YouTube ads to grow more and more awareness to the channel
I will look for many friends in Steem, because I want to learn about various cultures throughout the world through the adventures they do ..
Nope my friend, I see it too and it is disgusting. I see people who write blog post after blog post and get huge payouts but refuse to upvote decently written Comments on their blogs...these are Comments from Users helping to build up their blog. To me that is insanity and cannot begin to wrap my head around that kind of Greed ! :(
I would continue doing what Iam doing now but on a larger scale. I am a HUGE proponenet of Engagement and Upvote all decent quality Comments on my Blog at least 25%-100% powered Upvotes. And that doesn't matter if they have SP of 500K or 5K ;)
Also ramp up my Initiative I started a few months ago called DtubeRockers where I spotlight and reward Content creators who really rock the dtube platform with an emphasis on superb Engagement and high quality Commenting.
Well who doesn't like a little delegation?!?
Lots of worthies in the comments below already I see!
Interesting thought experiment... I'd probably use it for the following...
Given that I'd make a higher return because money follows money I cld then spend a bit less time working the day jobs and a bit more time learning Python and working on my 'sociology of steem' and play more of a role out there onboarding people.
TBH I'd just use it to carry on as usual and do the things I'm unable to currently do due to lack of time!

What disturbs me a lot is when people delegate everything to a voting bot for passive income and then keep posting regular to double dip and happy taking the votes without the ability anymore to give anything back despite they could give back
