Sorry my friend, I got so caught up in the art and process I didn't see that last paragraph!
Where I grew up cucos were referred to as "bogeymen," so I always imagined it as a man. He wore a gray, pinstriped suit, impeccably creased, and a bowler hat. He was painfully thin, like someone very old or very ill, but his skin didn't sag. It looked too tight on him, and every tendon and bone stood out in sickly relief. His features were sharp and his eyes were cold and pale and hungry. And no matter what expression he wore, it always looked like he was grinning, because his skin was stretched so tight against his skull.
I never worried about him when I was out late with my friends. I only thought of him when I was by myself and it was quiet. Then, whether I was in the house, or out in the yard, or on the playground, I imagined I could feel him watching me. I would hold my breath, and stand very still, and I would be afraid to turn around because I expected to see him standing near. Just standing there and watching me and grinning.
When I made myself look he was never there of course. :) But I always felt nervous till I was back with other people again.
Thanks again, oscurity, for the awesome art and post!
