Balor demons are one of the most feared types of demons in the D&D game. There is a lot of similarity with Tolkien's Balrogs (and I believe that they were Balrogs in the very early incarnations of the game) but as is the way of things, the copyright infringement gods had them remade as the Balor (which pretty much is just a name change for they still maintain a lot of the characteristics of the Balrog). Anyway, this is one of my early OSRIC pieces that I did 12 years ago. I feel that I've grown stylistically since then, but the ambition and excitement are definitely evident in this piece. As soon as I could ready I was pouring through 1st edition D&D monster manual. This picture brings me back to this time, which tells me you did a good job with the authentic style.
