Project Dagsa in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental

in #art7 years ago

Tatay DagsaIf one can refer to our individual posts before, @walkofhope members have mentioned of , whose real name is Filcon Rivera, he will be accompanying Marlon aka @flabbergast-art. A lot of us have also mentioned the gallery artspace that Marlon have been trying to finish before they can both leave Bayawan and finally start the MUSIC and ARTS Tour.

First, a bit of Tatay Dagsa

Originally from Bayawan, he is one of the city's CREATIVES who have his own advocacy "Share the road, share the air". For his advocacy, he have travelled the whole archipelago using a driftwood scooter in 2014, culminating after 9 months. It was during this period when he and Marlon met in Ilocos, in Northern Philippines.

Being gifted a guitar on the same year, he now composes his songs and plays the instrument. Together with Marlon, they have been performing on occasions, Marlon with his indigenous local and foreign instruments. According to Tatay Dagsa, the content of his songs comes from just ordinary stories and chats when listening to their conversations. His inspiration though comes when he's out in the sea, him being a fisherman when younger.

DAGSA is a Visaya word for DRIFTWOOD. Living along the seashore, it's not far-fetched for anyone to fall in love with all those driftwood coming from the sea, coupled that with an inspiration to create ART from it.

That anyone was HIM alone. And resigning his regular job to focus on his ART when it started to get noticed, his relatives thought of him going crazy. In this part of the world, driftwood are meaningless where the only use for it were as wood when cooking. His wife can't use them without asking him first.

A bit of Project Dagsa

At the moment, Marlon is staying with him and the recent workshop was held here. Basically, Marlon turned this Bahay Kubo into a cafe, but mainly used for people to hangout. And recently, it is where the other Creatives of Bayawan gather and do meetings.

To fully commenced the Tour, they need to be functioning so Tatay Dagsa can leave.

This will be turned into a proper cafe, the previous bamboo classroom will be made into an ARTISTS' accomodation for free and workshop. The Bahay Kubo where Marlon's accomodation is will be turned into an ART GALLERY as this place will continue the kids' crafts as a mean of livelihood, using their local BAMBOO.

The old bamboo classroom.

I'll be focusing on this project during my stay here in Bayawan as well as meet other Creatives here as there are a lot of advocacies being thrown my way. I hope my time here in Bayawan will be productive in these regards.

Our team of @walkofhope will soon start to raise funds and this account will be the recipient. We accept any support and donations of any kind to accomplish this project. THANK YOU.

In lieu of Steemit Philippines' mission TO PROMOTE THE PLATFORM THROUGH IT's CHARITY INITIATIVES, @walkofhope is bringing Music and Arts to our underprivileged Filipinos in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, headed by @flabbergast-art with Tatay Dagsa and other creatives that join the Tour.
