An hour dedicated to this lovely squirrel

in #art7 years ago (edited)

I got in a good warm-up earlier today with my newest goldfish studies but I was actually surprised when this little guy appeared out of nowhere. I was left alone (here at @caffetto) for a short period of time and I tried to redraw an old image but failed. I couldn’t get it right, maybe the heat of the the building was getting to me. It’s much cooler now since someone propped open the backdrop. Thanks to whoever did that, this squirrel’s dedicated to that kind stranger.

The funniest thing to see in the fall are super plump squirrels who have packed on a lot of weight before winter. I remember spotting one perched on a power line and it seemed to dip down from it’s weight.

This drawing started off as a doodle before I committed to it being a 20 minute sketch, then a 30 minute sketch...and then I finally settled on it being a quick colored study.

Here’s a quick look at how the sketch started. I thought about giving this a cute animated appearance by drawing it with large eyes but then changed it. I prefer a somewhat realistic feel.

The outline sketch was completed within a 20 minute timeframe. I’m thinking about doing a sketch and having other Steemians color it. Both @artwatch and @steemitadventure have done it and it looked like a lot of fun! Seems like I’m always coming up with contest ideas but I’m never able to participate. 😅

I added a wash of color to the background so highlights would pop once they were sketched in.

Doing these quick studies are fun but I’m thinking about spending more time on coloring. This thought came to me after seeing a beautiful digital painting from @helenelenoble which was really inspiring. Be sure to give @helenelenoble a follow if you aren’t following already!

I’m satisfied with what I was able to do in an hour.

Thanks for checking out my work!

If I did a contest then would you be interested in coloring one of my drawings? 🦊

When I lived in the East Coast outside in our yard was a giant oak tree home to a squirrel that didn't think too fondly of me. Whenever i'd go outside she'd purposely threw acorns, limbs, leaves or whatever it had at me. lol I miss my old home so much!

Hahahha! That’s hilarious and sounds like something straight from a movie! Did you ever record or snap pictures of your furry neighbor doing this?

Back then it was scary to me haha Now it's funny when I think about it :) I never took a pic but my son and husband constantly remind me of "my friend" lol

lol. Your frenemie! 😂

Haha this is about the most majestic looking squirrell I've ever seen, not a trait I usually associate with them.

Surely he was monitoring you.

Hahaha!!! I’ve never actually watched this show but I might start because of this episode.

Haha you really should, they do some of the zainiest things I've ever seen on tv. It has lots of fun with multiverse theory, and it exhibits a weirdly optimistic take on Nihilism

You are at level now that you can start thinking of making prints for sale @vermillionfox, this one is so good that can go into that group.
hahaha, listen to me, I beginning to sound like some old boring teacher :(

Not an old boring teacher at all! More like the kind friend every artist needs in their lives. :) I’m trying to think of something cute I can design that would be small and affordable.

Cute squirrel :-) Impressive work my friend

An hour well spent! Nice work. The squirrel came out well, especially the face. I also like the delicate flowers.

Thank you so much. I really wanted the details in the face to pop out. :)

Nice work! Nice tutorial!

I was also drawing a squirrel this days:

(the pencil is there just for comparison. it is a tatoo on artificial skin, as i have decided to try tatoos - i am training :) )

Al the best!

That’s awesome! Good luck with your tattoo training!

Nice work! Go through my blog and see my new content, greetings :D

Adorable fatty squirrel! XD

Don't you love it when your "quick sketches" decide nup they want to be something else?

goatsig

I have a soft spot for chubby creatures! XD

I do love it when my quick sketches become something more. I always end up feeling accomplished!

<3 <3 Amazing as always! Looks like my little buddy that steals my pancakes of the back porch in the summer! Hehe!

Thanks @wolfcat! Cute! Have you snapped any pictures of this little buddy??

Haha you're right that boy looks like he's SET for the winter- the other day we saw a few squirrels trying to remember where they had hid their nuts for the winter as it was one of the first warm days in awhile. It was hilarious! Always loved them

He is! I also love watching them with their tails back and forth when they’re chattering. So cute!

hehe you're right! If i ever found a 24/7 live squirrel cam to watch I don't think I'd ever get anything else done!

Omgosh. I didn’t even think of those live cams. Those things are awesome.

right!!? my favorite ever was alive giraffe cam at a zoo, i actually watched it give birth- blew my mind!

Giraffe’s are my favorite! Wasn’t that the giraffe that kept having false alarms and people waited days for her to give birth?

Yes!!! I couldn’t believe i was lucky enough to catch it!

very gentle illustration! wonderful squirrel:)

Thanks so much dear!

Ooooh is so cute :3

I think I’ve nailed the fluffy texture which helps with the cuteness! :)

Hahaha I absolutely agree <3

Always enjoyed watching those little squirrels. Love your drawing. You are so talented and I can't believe how you captured that little guy so quickly in your drawing. Compliments!

Thank you, I really appreciate it! I’ve been working really hard and trying to speed up my drawing time.
I love watching them dive down into the grass when they’re searching for food.

You have acquired incredible incredible skill. Leonardo said, first acquire accuracy, speed then comes by itself. Looks like you are mastering both!

Since you regularly show yourself in your posts, you are not a stranger to your audience. But if you feel like it, I'd still love to see an artistbehindthearttreat post by you! You are now invited :-)

hello, i like drawings too. kindly see my blog also hehe https://steemit.com/art/@sheiloiys/2-sketch-accompaniment-duyog
