The audience at Green Apple books booksonthepark was rapt tonight. Author and humorist rachellevinsf offered tales from her newly released field guide lookbigbook to a captive audience. A few of us storytellers told our tales of animal encounters and complicated human responses. Bonnie told the gross story of roaches eating the dead rat in her New York carpeted apartment. Jeff told the sad tale of his tarantula named Eva that he accidentally killed on a 4 hour drive. Pooja talked of meeting a stampede of wild boars in Costa Rica and almost getting herself killed by giggling nervously. Chris talked about his vision quest with a coyote. While holding a glass of rosé, I told the sad story of the lone bedbug that prompted me moving in with my ex boyfriend. It’s a story best forgotten, but I’m still traumatized, so I’m glad I had a bunch of strangers to share it with.
