I've re done this prompt for my university summer project atleast three times now, but I'm happier with the way this looks. I'm putting the final outcome here so it will show as the thumbnail for this post, as I've done some sort of step by step process pictures.
So, I really like using the Old English font to do some writing and typography. I haven't had too much practice with it yet but I'll be using more of it in the future I think. As I want to have a consistent font theme in my sketchbooks sometimes (that is something that my tutors liked about my sketchbooks in college!) I have used a mixture of green, brown and pink eraseable colouring pencils, a biro and a graphite stick to so the self portrait. I used a pink biro and a pink pencil to do the font.
I used cross hatching for some of the tone and the shading as that is usually my favourite technique for shadows. Very inspired and influenced by Maurice Sendak's illustrations and his shading! I had some difficulty getting the face in proportion, but since I wanted it not to be super realistic, and more in my style I decided to just roll with it in the end, haha.
Wanted to include more of a full body thing, with a different outfit too. So I just played with the layout of the page, didn't want to make it too crowded, but also wanted to draw a lot because I like drawing, lol. Used a blue erasable colouring pencil to do this outline.
More of a close up of the previous step.
Added my recent favourite gift from @cryptocariad , which is a funky denim jacket from Poundland! Surprisingly enough, the jacket was not £1 though, weird. Also added some shorts and tights. I got some tights recently, they're a pale fishnet tight, but with small (fake) rhinestones! So, so, SO pretty! I used a black pencil and a graphite stick to colour in the jacket and tank top.
Basically the finished piece. So, I used some watercolour pens to colour the tank top and shorts in, gold coloured ink to colour the tights (not happy with how that looks) and a POSCA white pen to do some highlights.
I like the way the zoomed in image looks! This whole drawing took a day or so to finish.. Still have a few more left to do!!
I move to university accommodation in like 8 days!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Thank you for stopping by!
